Who We Are

The Yonkers Humane Society, Inc. was established to support the animals at the Yonkers Animal Shelter and animals in the community. We work with staff  and administration to improve the life of shelter residents and we work to keep animals out of the shelter by coordinating with rescue networks.

Some of our  present and future projects include:

  • Sponsoring community adoption days 
  • Purchasing a mobile adoption van to provide low cost spay/neuter services to residents 
  • Supporting the spay/neuter programs to reduce overpopulation and decrease the number of unwanted pets 
  • Contributing funds for specialized care for abused and neglected animals
  • Providing educational programs to schools and community groups in order to reduce the incidence of animal abuse
  • Helping to promote senior and special needs dogs that are currently up for adoption at the Yonkers Animal Shelter
  • Contributing funds for specialized equipment used for rescue needs
  • Ongoing volunteer support for PetSmart cat room cats
