Who We Are

Our Mission:

The purpose of the Wadena County Humane Society is to provide education and training concerning companion animals and animal welfare, to promote the protection of animals, to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals, to assist in the enforcement of laws pertaining to animals, to aid in the return of animals to their rightful owners, to secure suitable housing for homeless animals and provide humane sheltering and care of companion animals for impound, surrender, rescue, and adoption.

Saving Lives in Our Neighborhood and Beyond!

Wadena County Humane Society was founded in 1997 through the efforts of dedicated local volunteers. The ultimate goal was and still is to save lives and ensure the safe and humane treatment of companion animals in the area. WCHS is 100 percent independently funded and relies on generous donor contributions and the love and labor of volunteers. Thank you for all you give and for every animal you save!

We accept owner surrenders, strays, and animals at risk for euthanasia at other crowded shelters when we have space. We provide medical care and behavioral support to abandoned pets. All adopted pets go home spayed/neutered and up to date on shots.
