PLEASE, PLEASE do not buy your pets from Pet Stores or back yard breeders.
Go to your local shelter or a reputable rescue group to adopt a new family member.

Please consider carefully before you surrender your pet to a shelter.
They are SO full and SO many wonderful pets never leave alive.
Think before you act.

Thank you for not adding to the over population problem by buying from pet stores
and roadside puppy sales.

Give an Animal Shelter pet a Second Chance.

More Loving Foster Families and Homes Are Needed...

Because all of our dogs and cats are kept in temporary homes until their adoption, we are limited in the number of animals we can save from euthanasia in the shelters when we don't have temporary homes to put them in. Everything the dog or cat needs is provided by our rescue and there is no expense for the foster family unless it's by their choice. Finding a "just right" adoptive family for each pet can vary in the amount of time needed. Fostering of a pet can be from 2 weeks to 3 months or more. We occasionally have dogs or cats with special needs who will need longer foster care. We work with our fosters to place animals in their homes who "fit" with their lifestyle and situation.

Become A Foster Parent

Foster parents are the core of our program.

In our foster program we attempt to match the pet with the family and home where it is placed. The foster family will accept the pet as a temporary member of their family in an attempt to socialize it, providing basic training (name recognition, come, sit, etc.) and giving them a comfortable loving temporary place to live. This allows the pet to become more adoptable and prepares it for an easier transition into a new "forever" home.

New Fosters will have direct contact with an experienced mentoring foster volunteer.

Please contact us to learn more about this program, how rewarding and simple it is
and how you can help. For more information, Please send your email to us at
TxTailwaggers@aol.com with a subject line of Information on fostering??

If you are curious or interested in fostering,
please fill out the adoption/foster application below.

TTVR, as a 501(c)3 non-profit charity, the rescue we do depends on your generosity to save lives, help provide medical care and find homes for homeless pets. No amount is too small or too large and every single dollar really does help. It may sound cliche, but it is actually true. Thank you!

The Importance of TRAINING

We find that just some basic training can turn a nuisance pet into a wonderful family companion. We highly recommend

Anne is very "rescue" friendly and uses gentle, positive and practical training methods. Please visit her Specialty Pet Training web site to see how reasonably priced and conveniently located her group classes are. She does private one-on-one training and also does in-home training where your pet has a greater comfort zone. Training in agility is also available. A little training helps cement the loving bond between you and your pet, enhances your life as you understand your pet better.

Only selected available animals will be there to meet potential adopters. All adoptions are done through applications and no dogs are released the day of the event unless prior approval is obtained. It is important that you fill out an application and indicate which animal you are interested in prior to the day of the event.

It's difficult for any rescue organization to know when they pull a shelter animal exactly what type of medical care above the basics will be needed. A fund for "extra care medical expenses" allows us to pull animals that have special needs and see that they get that help because the funds are available to pay for it. Just as some animals require major medical care, some require special training to help them blend into their new families when they are adopted. If you would like to make a donation for either purpose, please make this notation.

You may donate by check and send your contributions to

Donate a Bed We are endeavoring to provide Kuranda dog beds for our adoptable pets while in their foster homes. We know they are durable and also so good for our dogs, most of which have had a hard life before their entry into our adoption program. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a Texas Tailwaggers Rescued pet, please click on the peacefully sleeping dog.

Look at these great pictures from Tailwaggers Ranch during the Holiday at the Hall in Lewisville held in December each year. Texas Tailwaggers had such a super time, gave away goodie bags and discussed animal rescue and welfare with lots of folks out enjoying the beautiful weather. This is a big event each year for the city with the Marine's Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run, Ice Sculptors competing with their art ice sculptures, vendors, food booths (oh that wonderful fair type food...Fletcher's Corny Dogs was even there), the Christmas Parade and lighting up of Old Town decorations and the Christmas tree. Santa Claus is always in attendance and it's a wonderful, casual family experience to start off the Holiday Season.
Holiday at the Hall

There were demonstrations by the GAP Service Dog Program, Dog Contests (most kissable, waggiest tail, cutest outfit, etc.) with nice prizes going to the winners, cake walks off and on during the day with prizes of mostly homemade baked goods. Yummy!

People even got to have their Holiday Photos or their pet's pictures taken in a Christmas scene with “Great Dane Reindeer”, “Polar Bear Great Pyrenees” and Italian Greyhound “Elves”

It was a great way to kick off the Holiday Season

DOGGIE DIVE IN DAY in Lewisville was such fun (especially for the dogs)
with participation by many rescue groups!

It's great to see our Volunteers and Fosters working together for a common purpose.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make our different events so successful...
the Balloon Festival each year, our garage sales, Lewisville Western Days, City Wide Pet Day in Richardson and the Holiday at the Hall each year in Lewisville and the other events we participate in

Who We Are

We are a volunteer based non profit organization dedicated to the welfare, care and adoption of abandoned and homeless animals. Our priority is to help homeless and abandoned animals in our community receive a second chance at life and promote humane education for the responsible treatment of all companion animals. We also provide educational materials that will help pet owners with their animals. All of our animals are kept in foster homes. We do not have a physical building, to view the animals please come to our scheduled events.

Adopting A Friend

If you wish to adopt one of our animals, please fill out the adoption application below.

Texas Tailwaggers Adoption Application

We do not have a physical location or building or board our adoptable pets. All of our animals area fostered in private homes.
You may meet available dogs in need of a loving family and new home by visiting us at our scheduled Meet and Greet Events.

DOGS are $180 - $350. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies includes spaying/neutering, vet visit before adoption, deworming, heartworm testing (for dogs over 6 months old), treatment of heartworms if positive and heartworm preventative each month if test is negative, flea and tick prevention, all vaccinations including distemper, parvo, parainfluenza, corona, leptospirosis, bordetella and rabies, any other medical treatment necessary to make them healthy for adoption including dental if necessary for medical rather than cosmetic reasons, microchip, rescue ID tag and a collar plus food and other supplies needed in foster care until adopted.
1.) Receive a completed application.
2.) Adoption counselor(s) call and check the vet reference, go over the app and request more information from the applicant if there is any question about the information on it.
3.) Personal references are contacted.
4.) A home visit is done with or without the animal in attendance according to the situation.
5.) The applicant is approved or disapproved and informed.
6.) An Adoption Agreement Contract is completed.

An Adoption Counselor and the Foster Mom or Dad review all applications and try to make a selection for each animal on which home and family, in our opinion, is the best match for that individual animal. This is not an overnight process, and can take up to 2 weeks.

Texas Tailwaggers Village Rescue reserves all rights in choosing homes for our animals. Potential adopters are screened and interviewed by trained adoption counselors prior to any adoption and the Animal Coordinator and the Foster Parent must agree on the placement of any animal. We intend for our adoptions to be permanent placements and only adopt dogs and cats into homes for which, in our opinion, they are best suited. Not all dogs or cats are available to every adopter and TTVR reserves the right to deny an adoption for any reason.
