Toy Fox Terrier Rescue
What is a Toy Fox Terrier?
The Toy Fox Terrier is also known as the 'Ameritoy' as it was bred in America. The breed was first recognized by the United Kennel Club and later by the American Kennel Club. The Toy Fox Terrier is intelligent, alert, very active and friendly. A TFT is your personal body guard and is completely loyal. They were the original circus dogs and excel in agility as they learn new tasks quickly, are eager to please, and adapt to almost any situation. The Toy Fox Terrier is self-possessed, spirited, determined and not at all intimidated. They are able to take on the personality of the household, almost always highly animated and very comical, entertaining, energetic and playful all their lives.
What is TFT Rescue?
The members of Toy Fox Terrier Rescue are all volunteers, who network across the country to assist when a TFT, or an 'almost TFT' is in need. We have dogs up for adoption all across the USA, not just CA, and we work out ground transports, as well as air flights. There are additional charges for adopting a dog out of state, but they are more than worth it. Our adoption fee varies depending on the age of both the dog and the adopter - ranging from $150 to $250. We offer a $50 discount from the normal adoption fee of $200 for people over 60 years of age and or if you are adopting more than one dog at a time.
We rescue dogs from overcrowded pounds, from the PTS lists at kill shelters, from puppymills (known as HVB-High Volume Breeder), backyard breeders, abandoned companion pets, and now, many canine victims of the economy. TFT Rescue also assists owners whenever possible with resources including but not limited to- choosing a TFT, training, behavioral issues, health care including dental, funding sources, lost pet protocol, and how to cope with illness. TFT Rescue does not have an emergency medical fund as yet, but we do have micro-lending and food for companion dogs of homeless in some areas of the country.
Follow the link above to visit our website. TFTR is an organization filled with devoted and loving people who adore their TFTs. We have volunteers in several states and a diligent Board of Directors who are constantly fighting for the rights and protection of our beloved breed. Please check our website for pictures of available dogs, as well as pictures of those who have been adopted.
You can also find an adoption application on our website. We have several little ones in our rescue program at any given time who are looking for a loving caring home. A rescued Toy Fox Terrier may need extra patience and attention at first, but it is a task well worth the reward.
The adoption fee helps to offset the cost of spaying or neutering, vaccinations, dental cleaning, health certificates, and testing for suspected illnesses. Donations help shore the difference between adoption fees and the costs of other treatments such as heartworm, broken limbs, kennel cough, etc...
If you are considering adopting one of our tiny wonders, acquaint yourself with the breed. Be sure you are suited for a very active, fearless, small dog that is a giant in spirit. It is also an adorable breed: intelligent, devoted, travels easily, requires little grooming. A Toy Fox Terrier is a snuggler, a cuddler, and a truly loving dog who will enrich your life as does nothing else.
How can you help?
Rescue warms your soul. Most of our dogs are fostered in our own homes. We welcome your involvement, be that as a foster, or conducting a home visit, or taking part in a transport, or arranging a fund-raiser or making a donation. As a volunteer organization, we operate by the skin of our teeth, on donations. Please consider giving a little bit. It's all about the dogs.
