Introducing Our Featured Pet....

Hi, My name is Shady and I came to Tigerlily last month with a badly infected eye and neuter site. I lost my eye due to the infection, but I'm doing just fine without it! I am full of life and I'm a super playful boy! I would do best as an only cat as I have a habit of stalking the other cats in my foster home. I tolerate the large dog in my foster home but I do sometimes smack her in the face! I'd really like a home with no young children - my prior family told the rescue that I was hit with sticks by children in the past, and I do have a habit of play-biting when I'm excited, as well. My ideal home would be one with no other animals, and with an adult human or two to love me up and give me their undivided attention! Do you have the purrfect home for me?
Love, Shady

Become a Foster Home!

One way that you can help is to become a foster home. You can foster pregnant or nursing moms, young kittens, or adults. We have felines to fit every preference! Tigerlily provides all that you will need as a foster home, including litter, food, cages for isolation, toys, even blankets and bowls. All you provide is lots of TLC! All foster cats receive medical attention prior to entering a foster home. Our cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, vaccinated for distemper and rabies (age permitting), dewormed, treated with flea preventative, and examined by a veterinarian.

It is a very rewarding experience to be a part of saving lives and finding homeless cats and kittens loving, forever homes! Please let us know if you are interested in becoming a foster parent!

Become a Cat Caregiver at Petsmart!! !

Our cat caregivers are volunteers, ages 16years+ who come to Petsmart one evening a week to spend quality time with our cats in the Adoption Center. While the cats are running free inside the closed door, our volunteers clean the cages, change water and food, and either dump or scoop the litter. (You will be trained in the specifics) After the cages are cleaned, time is spent visiting, brushing, feeding canned food treats, and cuddling our kitties.
The time spent is usually about an hour or so, and the reward is outstanding. Our cats have so much love to give, and they thrive on human attention.
Please let us know if you'd like to be a Cat Caregiver!
(586) 431-5353 or
email us if you are interested and would like more information! Thank you!

Help at PETsMART Adoption Events!

We can also use help with our adoption events. We hold bi- weekly adoption events at the PETsMART. Volunteers can help introduce potential adopters to our cats, as well as help give the animals lots of attention! We are looking for people to help match the right cats with the right owners, and to process the adoption!

Help at Special Events!

In addition to our regular events, Tigerlily will participate in special events like the Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo at the Detroit Zoo, the PetaPalooza adoption fair, and Santa Pictures offered each December at PETsMART. We can always use help at these events too!

Help in Other Ways!

You can help Tigerlily kitties in many ways!!

Transporting animals is another way to help. We need help transporting animals to and from veterinary appointments or to foster home destinations.

We can ALWAYS use your help! Please let us know if you are interested in helping to create a world of No More Homeless Pets- we will help find a way that works best for you!
YOU can make a difference to homeless cats and kittens!

Please call or email us if you'd like more information on how you can help!

Adopting a friend

Tigerlily Cat Rescue strives to assure our cats and kittens are able to find forever homes. Please read the information below regarding adopting a feline friend.

If you would like to adopt a cat or kitten from Tigerlily, please first fill out an Adoption Questionnaire. Questionnaires are available if you email us at tigerlilyrescue@aol.com.

Adoption Requirements

* We do require adopters to be at least 21 years old.
* If you are leasing, we do ask that you provide a copy of your rental agreement showing that cats are allowed.
* We also ask that all adults living in the home agree with the adoption and addition of a feline friend to the family.
* For families with young children (under 6), kittens over 6 months are best.
* If the pet is to be alone for a significant amount of time, we ask that you consider adopting an older kitten or adult,
or consider adopting two kittens to keep each other company. Young kittens are susceptible to social-depression if alone for a significant amount of time.
* We also discourage "gift" adoptions unless it is from a parent to a minor child.

Our adoption fee of $100 includes feline leukemia/FIV testing, deworming, flea preventative, and age-appropriate vaccines.
All Tigerlily cats are thoroughly examined by a veterinarian. All of our animals are spayed/neutered before adoption.

The Starfish
Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day and began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely, then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one."
