Our Featured Pet...

Heidi von Schnautzen Guten tag! Heidi von Schatzen (or “of the sweethearts” in her native tongue of German) has just returned from Oktoberfest. There she enjoyed wonderful Fall weather, the company of friends (and cute boys in their Lederhosen), joyous music, and tasty pretzels & bratwurst (but no beer). She sure needed the vacation after all she’d been through!! After 11 years of being bred time and time again, she was dumped by her owner at a local kill shelter with her young mixed pups. At some point she developed mastitis which was left untreated, and grew into a terrible infection with large, globular masses protruding from her nipples. She also tested positive for heartworms which are so advanced that her heart is enlarged. She is facing a complete radical mastectomy and aggressive heartworm treatment. Despite her troubles, Heidi is a very happy-go-lucky gal with some wonderful years left in her and she is as sweet as strudel! She learned how to live in the home in no time, is potty-trained and will not touch anything that is not hers. She will do anything that is asked of her, she aims to please. In the time she’s been in rescue she has not barked once. She is happy doing anything that her foster mom does, she just wants to be at someone’s side, especially if they are relaxing at the park or reading to Heidi a certain German children’s story.
