Who are we?
The Animal Rescue and Protection Society, Inc. (TARPS) opened its doors in the Fall of 2000. TARPS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We are manned solely by volunteers as a no kill shelter. Our funding is by the generous donations of people and businesses in our local and state-wide community.

A Vital Need: Adoptive (Forever) Homes
We are looking for safe homes with owners that will love and care for our animals. The TARPS cats come here for many different reasons. Some of the cat come from abusive or hoarding situations, some come from feral colonies in the area. Some of them were loved pets, lost or left behind. They are brought to TARPS because we are a no-kill shelter. No-kill means we do our best to find safe and loving homes rather than euthanizing them.

Funds, Donations and Gifts in Kind
Our animals are healthy and regularly examined by a local vet. They are given whatever initial care is needed, necessary shots, and spayed or neutered when they come of of age. Food, litter, vet care and building/facility upkeep all cost money. We are continually searching for funding to keep our door open.
If you or your employer would like to make a tax deductible donation, or become a sponsor, we would be happy to speak with you. Or click on this link to go directly to our Donate page.
What is your talent? We will do our best to match you with a task you'll enjoy. The time you put in for TARPS is eligible to use towards church or school community service hours. If you live in the southern Vermont area and volunteering interests you, drop us a line. Click this Volunteer link and fill out the form at the bottom of the page, we will contact you as soon as we can.
