Small Dog Rescue
Pet of the Month...
Who We Are
Small Dog Rescue Inc. is registered as a 501(c)3 non profit corporation, this means that your donations are tax-deductible. Since April 2000 Small Dog Rescue, Inc. has placed over 700 homeless pets into responsible homes. Our goal is to match up the right pet with the right owner so this pet will not end up at a shelter AGAIN!
SMALL DOGS AND SMALL KIDS: Many of the calls I get to take little dogs are because they are not getting along with children. More than likely this is because they were left unsupervised with an un-knowing child who mistreated them. If it says "no young kids" in one of our dogs descriptions, we make no exceptions.
APARTMENT LIVING : The most common reason people give up their dog: "we are moving and the new apartment does not allow dogs". Pets are permanant and for life, apartments are usually temporary, please think first before adopting! Also, many dogs are not suited for apartment living.
SENIOR PARENTS: I think all seniors should have a little dog to care for and spoil rotten! My own dogs would love it if I was retired and had a lot of time for just them! Unfortunatly about 20% of dogs I take in are from senior parents who could not care for them anymore either because of illness or moving into an senior care facility etc.. Please ask your family if they will be willing to care for whom-ever you adopt if you are no longer able to. There are also many middle-aged and senior dogs in rescue whose laid-back lifestyle will more match your own!
We primarily take in small dogs (under 25 lbs) from shelters, other rescue groups and individual owners. We do not take in dogs with aggression problems. As we are a no kill organization, space is limited. All of our adult animals are spayed/neutered, currently vaccinated, wormed and negative for heartworm if canine, negative for leukemia if feline.
WE WILL NOT ADOPT OUT UNALTERED DOGS OR CATS TO OWNERS WHO DO NOT HAVE A PROVEN HISTORY OF VETERINARY CARE (THAT INCLUDES SPAYING/NEUTERING). WE WILL ONLY ADOPT OUT *PUPPIES* TO OWNERS WITH *PREVIOUS PUPPY REARING EXPERIENCE*.
Our adoption fees range from $100-$300 for most dogs, $50-$100 for cats. All unaltered animals also require a $25-$50 spay/neuter deposit. If your a first time dog owner or have not had a pet in the last 5 years, pick good references to give us. Someone other then mother, brother, sister, dad. This will help you get the pet you want!**Thank you!
We think adding a new pet to your family is a big change/adjustment for everyone involved and do not recommend getting more then one new pet over a short period of time.

Adopting a friend
Since Pet ownership is sometimes not at all "convenient", neither is our adoption process!
We feel pet adoption is a serious commitment: Its for life! No pet adoptions will be done on first viewing of pet. Our adoption process is as follows:
1. Please fill out one of our online applications. A volunteer will contact you then so that you can arrange a time to come out and meet the pet you are interested in.
2. We do require a home visit.
3. After you have met the dog and we have your application, we will contact you, this might take 2-3 days.
4. When the happy day comes and you adopt your new pet be assured that no matter what the circumstances or how much time has passed, we will always take back any animal we have adopted out.
5. We need to finalize all adoptions within 24 hours of adoption approval. This makes room for more dogs already waiting to get into our rescue. Arrangements can be made to board a dog for a few days after adoption.
SORRY! BUT WE DO NOT DO LONG DISTANCE ADOPTIONS.
If you see a dog in our rescue that you would like to adopt, please feel free to fill out our on-line application prior to coming out to meet the dog.
**PLEASE NOTE** We only take applications on dogs we have listed. We do not keep a "wish list" and cannot "pre-approve" you for dogs we don't have. Thank you.
