FOSTER HOMES NEEDED:

Who We Are:

We are a registered charity with a small but dedicated group of volunteers who take in homeless shelties and find them new places to live. The dogs come into our care from shelters, veterinarians clinics, other rescue organizations, or from people who can longer keep their pet. We sometimes get dogs who have lived in abusive and inhumane situations who need special care. All dogs who come into our care are given basic vet care as needed, are neutered/spayed and kept up-to-date on vaccinations and heartworm preventives. We take them into foster care for a minimum of 1-2 weeks, in order to do basic assessment, all the while providing them with food, companionship and TLC. They are then available for adoption to a fully screened home that matches their needs and where they best fit in to a new family's lifestyle.

Adopting a friend!

Most of the dogs who we take in are adults between the ages of 4 and 10. We often get seniors who need a home to spend their last years in comfortably. Everyone interested in adopting a rescued sheltie from us will complete an initial questionnaire, which can be downloaded from this page, followed by a phone interview, a vet reference check and a home visit. We try vey hard to find the best possible match between the needs of each individual dog and the expectations of each approved adoptive family. If we do not have a sheltie available for you at this time we can keep your information on file in the event that a sheltie comes in our care who needs you. We also ask for an adoption donation to help in off setting the costs of vet care.

Unless specifically outlined in the individual dog's profile we do not adopt to homes with children under the age of 10 , or to homes that do not have a securely fenced yard.

Southern Ontario Sheltie Rescue reserves the right to deny any application. Completion of a vet reference check and/or a home visit does not guarantee or finalize an adoption.

Come Visit Us!

We do not have a shelter, as we operate out of our homes, and the homes of foster families. We do have contact with families, shelters and other rescues who may have shelties available for adoption. We accept donations of new and used dog accessories such as crates, bedding, food, toys, etc. and monetary donations to assist with our vet clinic/hospital bills. If you are interested and feel you can help make a difference in a homeless dog's life please contact us. Fostering is very rewarding. Experience with shelties, and some basic knowledge of training and dog behavior are needed.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear.
