THE HAVEN is a unique non-profit organization, dedicated to rescuing special-needs dogs and providing palliative care for those with life-limiting, incurable illnesses.

THE HAVEN embraces these dogs as part of our family, enabling them to enjoy their remaining time in the peace and beauty of a calm, well-balanced environment.

THE HAVEN allows our dogs free reign of our magnificent, fenced, 3-acre property. A small creek, banked by bullrushes, winds through the grounds, with 4 separate bridges to cross it. Some walk through the creek instead or even lie in it, while others seek out the shade beneath a huge weeping willow.

Hi! My name is Sheba, and this is my story. I was abandoned by my human guardians when I was 15 years old. Strangers in uniforms picked me up and placed me in a cage. I was confused, sick, and very hungry. I was happy when a new family took me into their home. But for some reason, I found myself back in that cage the next day. Then another human, a kind and caring one, took me on a long car ride and brought me to a very special place. Suddenly, I had enough to eat, and when I felt better, I was able to play outside and go for walks. But after a visit to an animal doctor, I was told that I had mammary cancer, a damaged liver, and Cushings disease. Luckily, my new, caring guardian was experienced in these matters and used many wonderful herbs to help support my healing. For the last 18 months of my life, I knew what it meant to be loved, really loved. And, yes, even pampered! There are so many others out there, just like me, who, when we grow old and ill, need the loving support of the families whom we always loved and supported.

As a non-profit organization, the Haven receives no funding other than the monies we raise ourselves and the generous donations we receive from those in and around our community. Because the animals at the Haven are among the most fragile -- the elderly, the ill and the disabled -- our costs are extremely high. That is why we continually reach out to you, our community, in the hopes that you may continue to support us as we support the very special animals in our care.

Why not elect to sponsor one of the permanent residents at the Haven? Your meaningful and most appreciated sponsorship may be in the form of a single payment or paid monthly, quarterly or annually. As a sponsor, you will receive a picture of your chosen resident as well as regular updates on their progress here.

A donation to celebrate a special occasion in your own life or in the lives of cherished friends or beloved family members. A donation to celebrate the birthday of your own companion animal. A donation to honour the memory of a deceased person or animal. The Haven will acknowledge your donation by sending an appropriate card to your friends and/or family. To receive a tax receipt for donations of $20.00 or more, please make your cheque payable to Sheba’s Haven Rescue or please click the PayPal or CanadaHelps button below to donate online.
