Welcome to Sasha's Den Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue group. Sasha's Den is comprised of a handful of volunteers and foster homes who strive to make the lives of a few cats and dogs a little better. All our animals are fostered in private homes which allows us to properly assess their temperament and behaviour, and understand the type of family that will best suit their needs. When you contact us about a pet, you will be informed of everything that has been observed since the animal has arrived under our care, hence helping you make the right decision. Should your profile not correspond with the type of home we are seeking for a particular pet, you will be informed of our reasons to think so. Hopefully you will understand that our animals' best interests are at the heart of what we do. Sasha's Den's ultimate goal is to find perfect matches !
Sasha's Den is an all-breed rescue, but out of personal interest, we specialize in gundog/sporting dog rescue. We usually have a number of Pointers (GSPs, Weimaraners, English Pointers) looking for active homes. Sasha's Den also likes to work with special needs dogs, those who are a little older or require extensive veterinary care, and for this reason, your support is desperately needed.
Please note that all of Sasha's Den's pets are fully vetted prior to their adoption. This includes complete vet exam, deworming, vaccination, flea-treatment when necessary, heartworm testing in season, current heartworm medication in season, spaying/neutering, grooming and behavioural assessment. All animals needing more extensive veterinary care are nursed back to health prior to leaving us.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL CONSIDER LONG-DISTANCE ADOPTIONS. HOWEVER, WE DO NOT SHIP OUR PETS AND REQUIRE THAT ALL POTENTIAL ADOPTERS TRAVEL TO COME AND MEET OUR DOGS.
At Sasha's Den, everything is done on a voluntary basis. We spend huge amounts of our own money each year to care for animals other people have let down. We never ask for any retribution for our work, but we need your help to continue. Please support our work by donating just a few dollars. All you need is a credit card. Your donation, added to that of a friend, a collegue, a neighbour, will make a world of difference in the life of a cat or a dog in need. A few words about Pointers and other sporting dogs: German Shorthaired Pointers, Weimaraners, English Pointers and other hunting dogs are highly active and need a great amount of exercise each day. They need active homes and owners who are home a lot. Sporting dogs thrive on companionship and generally do not do well if left alone too often. They tend to suffer from separation anxiety and can be vocal. If they are not offered an appropriate outlet for their energy level, they can become destructive. When exercised and stimulated appropriately, they make the most endearing companions as they live for their family and would do anything to please them. They are always ready to play fetch, go swimming, jog in the morning, play frisbee in the evening, and follow you on a camping or hiking trip. Sporting dogs are so much fun to have around - go ahead and stay FIT with them !
