City of Elko Animal Shelter

2210 Pinion Rd
Elko, NV 89801

Our Mission

The Elko Animal Shelter has three beautiful exercise yards for our furry friends to play in.  These yards are also used by potential adopters to meet, socialize, and get to know a dog prior to adopting.  We strongly encourage adopters  to take some time to get to know an animal before adopting to be sure that it is a good fit for their family.

All dogs that reside in the City of Elko or Elko County must be licensed yearly.  Licenses for dogs that live in Elko City limits can be purchased at the Elko Animal Shelter during regular business hours.  Licenses for dogs that live in Elko County can be purchased at the County Clerk's office at the Elko County Court House.  You will need a current Rabies Vaccination Certificate to license your dog.  Licenses need to be purchased between mid-December thru February 28th.  After February 28th a late fee will be charged.

Adoption Policy

We encourage adopters of our animals to be responsible and consider the commitment and time involved in owning an animal.  Most of the animals that come into the shelter have had very little training and will need a committed person to turn them into a well behaved and positive memeber of the family.  If you are interested in adopting an animal from our shelter you will need to fill out an adoption application prior to adopting.  Please just call or email the shelter and we will be happy to email or fax one to you. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $85.00 and includes the animal being spayed/neutered, a rabies vaccination, and a microchip.  The adoption fee for a cat or kitten is $65.00 and includes the spay/neuter, a rabies vaccination, and a microchip.  All incoming dogs under the age of 2 are given Parvo/Distemper and Bordetella vaccinations. All cats receive a feline distemper/feline rhinotracheitis (respiratory) vaccination.
