Info for Rescue Groups:

Since we are not able to adopt our way out of the pet overpopulation in this area, Tri-County Animal Shelter routinely sends animals to rescue groups and other shelters that are located in larger populated areas. Rescue groups need to provide: Proof of 501(c) 3 non-profit status; veterinarian reference; name/address/telephone number of rescue; and, contact information for intake coordinator. Please send information to Dana Goheen, Shelter Director, fax: 252 221-4101; email: Animals are sent out with basic vaccines and dogs are heartworm and temperament tested. A health certificate is provided for animals being transported across state lines. Transport: Our volunteers will transport animals to you directly or coordinate to meet up with your transport network. If your group works with Pilots-N-Paws or Animal Rescue Flights (ARF), our volunteers will deliver the animal to Northeastern Regional Airport in Edenton for fly-in pickup. When a rescue group has committed to an animal and the shelter fills up, we have made arrangements with a local vet to provide discounted boarding until transport arrangements are complete. For more information, please contact our volunteer Rescue Coordinator: Mary Jo Sellers 252 339-7141
