I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter... the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something," He replied.
"I created You!"

Mountain Rottie Rescue is excited to announce the start of our Bully Breed Project! We have always opened our rescue to breeds other than Rottweilers and we just can't ignore the numerous pit bulls and bully breed dogs that are dying in shelters. We are looking for a few new foster homes that are willing to foster pit bulls and bully breed dogs in need. If you are interested in fostering please contact us at We'd really love to help more dogs but we need foster homes! Here is a video of some of the bully breed dogs we've been able to help over the years. Some of these dogs have come from shelters, some found on the street. All of these dogs have been able to finally feel the love and joy of foster and forever homes. Please help us give happy endings to more pit bulls in need because they all deserve happy endings like these!

"Shelter Rotts"
This short film by Sheila E. was created to give an insight to the plight of the rescue dogs, many of whom come from high kill shelters.
This film depicts the happy and sometimes sad endings of shelter Rotts and the most common reasons why these dogs end up in shelters.
(Many Thanks to Sheila E for her creation of this film, Permission has been granted for educational use).

How Mountain Rottie Rescue began :
In memory of Brutus Robertson
R.I.P Jan,1st, 2000 - Jan, 27th, 2009
A letter from Krissie Buckley, President of Mountain Rottie Rescue of NY.

Brutus was the first dog I ever officially rescued. Brutus was living outside in Staten Island , where his owners had banished him after the birth of their child. Brutus had NEVER shown any aggression towards the child, however, his previous owners still locked him outside simply because he was a Rottweiler ! The owners of Brutus were going to surrender him to a kill shelter where he surely would have never survived. At that time, I was not a rescuer , I was simply someone who owned Rottweilers myself and I heard the sad fate of Brutus through a friend who knew the owners. I felt compelled to try and help this poor dog . It was then I met a woman named Terry Robertson through a wonderful rescuer named Tom Collinsworth (RIP) .
Terry and her husband JR took Brutus into their home and gave him the most wonderful life . It was through Brutus that Terry and I met and decided we wanted to help other Rottweilers in need and on March 17Th, 2002 Majesty Rottweiler Rescue was born . Terry and I rescued many dogs together for many years and in 2006 , Mountain Rottie Rescue of New York originated. It was because of Brutus that 2 Rottweiler Rescues were founded .It is because of Brutus that this orgaization exists today . It is because of Brutus that over the years hundreds of lives were saved and dogs like Brutus were given a second chance ! Very Sadly, on Jan 27th, 2009 - Brutus lost his battle with Cancer and this wonderful angel had to leave this world. However , his legacy will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. Thank you Terry and JR of Majesty Rottweiler Rescue for opening your heart and home to this special boy. And a very special "Thank you" to Brutus for opening up my eyes...not only have you changed my life...but the fate of so many others!
This ones for you boy......
