PLEASE NOTE: We have at times had technical issues and have not always received adoption applications. If you fill out an application please follow up with an email to email@example.com to verify it has been received.
NOTE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN-ADOPTERS: MLDHS is a volunteer run operation - on occasion we MAY be able to provide transportation of a pet towards North Battleford, Saskatoon and less frequently towards Edmonton but ONLY if we have a volunteer making a trip out of town. If transportation should be available for your pet - fuel costs will be charged accordingly. Please check with us once your application is approved to see if transportation may be available at that time. Please remember that it is the responsibility of the adopter not MLDHS to arrange for transportation of the pet. We will certainly try to accommodate should a volunteer be making a trip your direction, but we cannot guarantee a ride will be available at any time. Thank you! Please also send an email after you fill out the application to verify that it was received. Thanks!
Adopting a Friend If you are interested in adopting any of our animals please fill out an application. Once your application is received and reviewed you will be contacted by email. This process may take a few days so please be patient!
All animals for adoption through MLDHS will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption if they are old enough. If the animal is too young for altering at time of adoption, they must be spayed/neutered by an agreed upon date and a post dated spay/neuter deposit cheque left with MLDHS. The cost of this procedure to the society is included in the adoption fee ONLY if done at one of our local MLDHS vets. You may also use your own vet but surgery and rabies costs are then adopter's responsibility and will not be reimbursed by MLDHS. Proof of surgery completed by the deposit cheque date is to be provided to MLDHS and at that time deposit cheques will be destroyed. Vaccinations: Animals may have already received their first shots and Rabies Vaccination. If they have not received their booster before adoption, adopter is responsible for ensuring that they receive it, along with a rabies immunization if they were too young to receive it while in our care. As well, all dogs and puppies will be given microchips - this cost is also included in our adoption fees. Cats can be Microchipped for an extra fee of $20.00
Dog Adoption Fee - $160.00 Cat Adoption Fee - $60.00
The adoption fee for all animals is as listed above unless otherwise stated on individual animal profiles.
Puppy Deposit - $300 Kitten Deposit - $100
Our shelter is generously supplied with quality, Saskatchewan made pet food from Horizon Pet Nutrition!
MLDHS is in need of Foster Homes!! Both Full-time & Part-time! If you are uncertain about adopting a dog and the commitment involved, please consider becoming a weekend foster home! You can take a shelter dog into your home for a weekend to give it the experience of a home environment, lots of attention, and socialization, as well as a much needed break from the shelter! Many great shelter dogs are with us for long periods of time, and while we try to make their stay in the shelter as comfortable as possible, nothing is better than being in a home, even if it's just for a couple of days! If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in doing, please contact MLDHS.
Who We Are
The Meadow Lake & District Humane Society was formed in the summer of 2003. MLDHS is a volunteer animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, unwanted, and abandoned animals. Our other main objective is to spread the spay/neuter message in an effort to prevent overpopulation. All of our income is derived from donations, adoption fees, and income from doing pound maintenance for the City of Meadow Lake. We are 100% volunteer run and replies to any inquiries may possibly take several days due to volunteer schedules - please be patient. Also, please note that MLDHS board policy is to not adopt dogs to communities that practice dog culling as animal control.
