Our Featured Pet...

March 23 is National Puppy Day. National Puppy Day is a special day, recognized on March 23rd annually, to celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives. But more importantly, it's a day to help save orphaned puppies across the globe and educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills, as well as further our mission for a nation of puppy-free pet stores. So if you're in the market for a puppy visit your local shelter and save one from euthanasia and let's make EVERY DAY National Puppy Day!!

We need foster homes for our dogs. If you would be interested in volunteering, please contact us by telephone or email. There is an application and inspection to be completed before placing any dog in a foster home. We welcome new members and are very thankful for any assistance with our cause. We have several fund raisers going on. Just contact a member or call 270-250-7171 for more information.

The Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League now has a Pay Pal account. Just click on the donate button and you can donate to our fund to help the pets at Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League. Your donations will be appreciated.

Often people ask how to make a difference. Here are 7 ways to Make a Difference: SPREAD THE WORD: Educate others on animal protection issues. EDUCATE YOURSELF: Help pass animal-friendly state and federal legislation. SHOP CONSCIENTIOUSLY: Purchase cruelty-free cosmetics and household products that aren't harmful to animals or the environment. VOLUNTEER: Donate time to a local animal shelter, wildlife rehabilitation program, or habitat protection organization. CREATE PERSONAL CHANGE: Reduce your consumption of animal-based products and avoid products derived from factory farming. SPEAK UP: Write letters to the editor on animal protection issues and encourage local radio and television talk shows to cover these topics. CHOOSE HUMANE ENTERTAINMENT: Don't patronize circuses or other traveling acts that use exotic animals.

Who We Are

The Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League is a non-profit, all volunteer organization. The League was created in 2000 by a group of concerned caring citizens because of the growing stray animal problem and the appalling conditions at the local animal "shelter". Volunteers work together to foster, give medical care, and find permanent loving homes for stray, mistreated and unwanted animals. We have several fund raisers at this time. Donation jars are at local stores. We are collecting used printer cartridges and recycling cell phones. Please contact us for the locations of the recepticles. One of our big fundraisers is the Kroger Gift Card. You can purchase a card from any member for $5. The card has $5 credit on it. You can then add money to the card and use it to purchase items and gasoline at participating retailers. You will receive bonus money for using the card, as well as various rewards, and the Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League will receive money as well. Donations are tax deductible. The members meet each quarter (January, April, July, and October) on the 4th Tuesday in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Please call for directions to our meeting place if you'd like to join us. WE WELCOME INQUIRIES FROM REPUTABLE RESCUE GROUPS!

Adopting a friend

The adoption procedure begins with the prospective adopter submitting an adoption application which can be obtained by calling 270-250-7171 or emailing us at The application will be reviewed and the inspection committee will visit the applicant's home for an interview. Arrangements can be made for the prospective adopter to visit their potential new family member at it's foster home to get acquainted. The adoption fee is *normally* $90.00 for dogs and $50.00 for cats which covers up-to-date vaccinations and the pet's spay or neuter. (*Sometimes there are animals that come to our organization that require additional medical care. In those cases we reserve the right to increase the adoption fee accordingly and this fee will be indicated on the pet's posting.*) LCAWL takes great care in making sure our dogs and cats are placed in a loving and safe environment. We will make every attempt to assist all who contact us and we will transport our pets (by vehicle only) within a reasonable distance, but applicants will be considered on qualifications not location.
