July 2017

Dear Friend of Kootenai Pets for Life

At KPFL we often receive animals that have been traumatized before they arrive. They may have been abandoned on a country road and left to fend for themselves. They may have had a long time human taking care of them who has died and they don’t understand what happened to that person. Oftentimes they are very young mothers with their first litter and they have no idea what to do. For example someone brought in three little kittens that were found in a grease pit in a garage after their feral mother had been hit by a car.

We have a wonderful shelter but it could be made better to help these animals adapt to their new life so they can heal. Currently they are held in cages in the front part of the building. We would like to construct a small area behind the shelter where the general public would not go so these cats would have more privacy. Each animal would have a small area – larger than a cage – where they would live privately until they healed from their trauma.

We are asking you to help us build this area. A small donation from many people would get us to our goal. If you would like to help, please send whatever you can afford to the address above

KPFL is an all volunteer, no kill shelter that provides quality care to the abandoned animals of this area. Your help would enhance our efforts. Thank you for whatever you can do.?

Sincerely yours, Eileen Carney, President KPFL

Adopting A Friend

We always have pets available for adoption.  If you don't see a photo of the dog or cat you are looking for, please stop by the Shelter or give us a call as it is difficult to be up to the minute with photos.  We are all volunteers and many of us have full time jobs besides volunteering at KPFL.

The following links will help you with the adoption process.

Who We Are

Kootenai Pets for Life was started in 2001 by a group of concerned citizens to provide a humane, no kill Shelter for the stray and abandoned pet population of the Libby/Troy area.  It is a non-profit, all volunteer organization providing shelter, assisting our community with spay and neuter, foster care, veterinary assistance and education.

**********************************************************************************************

From our beginning in 2001  we have adopted out over 3,062 pets.  Each cat or dog that comes into our Shelter is spayed or neutered and up to date on shots before being released for adoption

The cumulative total for spay & neuters facilitated by KPFL from 2001 is over the 7,000 mark.  We continually work on the spay/neuter program using facilities in Libby, Kalispell and Bonners Ferry.

Kootenai Pets for Life encourages everyone to take their pets to their veterinarian and have them spayed or neutered and to have their vaccinations up to date.

If you are unable to do this KPFL, with some financial assistance from the County, is still actively offering a spay/neuter program. If you need help to spay or neuter your pet call 293-kpfl (5735) or if you can help financially mail your check to KPFL, Box 1454, Libby, MT 59923.

***********************************************************************************************

We have tax exempt status which means contributions made to Kootenai Pets for Life are deductible as charitable contributions on your Federal and State Income Tax returns (subject to rules and limitations the IRS puts on contributions.
