Our Mission

The Humane Society of Morgan County exists for the purposes of preventing cruelty to, relieving the suffering of, and providing humane treatment for animals.
It is also the HSMC's function to determine, and then to eliminate, the causes of animal suffering through various means, including, but not limited to education, legislation and general promotion of the humane ethic. Under no circumstances shall the HSMC permit an animal in its care or custody to undergo any experimentation, nor shall it release an animal for any such experimentation.

The HSMC is made up of volunteers dedicated to the welfare of companion animals. All animals that come into our care are housed in at our facility, unless otherwise noted in their profiles, until they can be matched with a carefully screened, permanent home. While in our care, they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for any illnesses or injuries, and started on quality heartworm and flea prevention. In addition to rescue and adoption, we host an annual reduced-cost spay and neuter clinic via Atlanta Humane. You can check their website for upcoming spay and neuter clinics for your area by going to

We are open 10am-5pm Tuesday-Saturday, however, we stop doing adoptions at 4pm everyday to allow our staff enough time to feed and walk dogs. Please read the animal bios completely before requesting additional information as we do our best to answer the most frequently ask questions in these bios. In order to adopt one of our animals an application must be submitted and approved. You can find these applications by going to We are an animal shelter and therefore are not able to individually potty train our residents. Many adult dogs do arrive “house broken” however due to animal behavior any change in environment will make an emotional impact on the animals and therefore initiate unwanted behaviors during the acclamation period. Please keep this in mind. Puppies do not have the biological maturity to maintain absolute bladder or bowel control and will require a certain degree of potty training and house breaking. Please consider the time and commitment it takes to provide the necessary building blocks for these special babies, prior to submitting your application. If you have any questions please email us at and provide name of the animal you are interested in, in the subject line.
