Lost Dog Information

Write your phone number on your dog's collar with a permanent marker. Many of the good citizens who bring dogs to the shelter would return the dog directly to the owner, if they knew how to reach them.

Better yet, put your dog's license and rabies tags on its collar. Owners can be traced through the numbers on either tag.

Take several photos of your pet, both head close-ups and body shots. If your pet gets lost, you can use the pictures and add a description to create a flier to post on bulletin boards around town. Bring the pictures to the animal shelter and request a courtesy posting of your lost pet to be placed on the shelter's Facebook Page.  You may also message us on Facebook with a picture and information or write a post on our Facebook page that we will share on our followers newsfeeds.

"Found" ads are free in the Evening News. Phone 632-2235.  We will also post found animals to our Facebook page.

"Lost" ads are not free in the Evening News, but are very inexpensive considering the broad coverage to help find your lost pet. Lost pets may be posted to our Facebook page for us to share with our followers.

Adopting A Friend

Any pet adopted from the Chippewa County Animal Shelter must be spayed or neutered, either before or after adoption.

F.O.C.A.S.-Friends of Caring Animal Shelters - is a local organization that offers financial assistance to residents of Chippewa County for spaying and neutering their pets.  Phone the shelter at 906-632-2519 to apply.

Adoption Fees:

If an animal is older than 12 weeks of age, the adoption fee is $60.00 for dogs and $25.00 for cats.

If an animal is less than 12 weeks of age, the adoption fee is $75.00 for puppies and $50.00 for kittens.

Age appropriate dogs and cats will be altered prior to leaving the shelter at no additional cost to the adopter.  Animals that are not of age to be alter will come with a certificate for a free spay/neuter surgery.

Who We Are

The Chippewa County Animal Control Shelter is managed by Holly Henderson and three dedicated shelter attendants.

Although no public animal shelter finds it easy to maintain a no kill policy, we are VERY PROUD that we adhere to strict directives where euthanasia is concerned. Very stringent protocol has been adopted where loss of animal life is considered.

Come Visit Us

The CCACS is always in need of volunteers to socialize our pets while they wait for a new home. Walking dogs, brushing cats, playing with kittens and puppies...you pick what you would like to do and let us know! Our volunteer base is recognized as an important 'beat' in the heart of our shelter days. Please contact the animal shelter at 906.632.2519 for more information. Better yet, drop by the shelter and pick up an application. NO TASK IS TOO SMALL. OUR ANIMALS WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU! You must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer.
