About Us

Cause for Paws is a small, all-volunteer Minnesota nonprofit 501 (c) (3) group founded in 1998. Our main focus is on finding loving, permanent homes for stray and abandoned cats and kittens.

Cats are fostered in volunteers' homes; there is no shelter facility.

As funds allow, Cause for Paws also provides spay/neuter assistance for owned cats in the community, through its Cause for Paws Spay/Neuter Subsidy Program.

The work of Cause for Paws is entirely funded by donations.

Adoption Information

Adoption fees are $140.

As you consider adopting a cat, here's what we recommend

First, think about the cat of your dreams. Daydream lots and ponder a little on the personality traits you are seeking and what characteristics would best fit your household.

To get you started...would you like a cat who...

  • Loves to play and zoom around the house and makes you laugh?
  • Or one who is a quiet cuddlebug who seeks out your lap?
  • Or a confident party cat who loves having all the relatives over?
  • Or an older, more sedate couch potato who's seen it all and seeks loving security?
  • A best pal or polite company for your current cat, dog, bunny or bird?
  • A special pal for the children?

Perhaps you seek a kitty with special needs or special personality who needs a special, accepting family like yours?

What Veterinary Care is Provided by Cause for Paws to Cats Before Adoption?

The veterinary care for every Cause for Paws cat or kitten prior to adoption includes:
  • Physical examination by a veterinarian
  • Feline leukemia/FIV test
  • Worming
  • Flea and tick preventative
  • Up-to-date distemper vaccinations
  • Rabies vaccination
  • Spay/neuter surgery
  • A microchip

All additional medical care and treatment, including x-rays, dental cleanings or tooth extractions, major surgery as in leg amputations or eye removal, antibiotics for upper respiratory infections and/or medications for other health issues is also provided by Cause for Paws to all of its cats while in foster care prior to adoption.

What Happens After the Adoption?

Recognizing that the first couple of days and weeks can be the most difficult as the new family adjusts, your cat's foster family will follow up with you to answer any questions or concerns as everybody settles in.
