Additional Information Description Hours
In addition to temporary housing for homeless pets, the Benewah County Humane Society has a Pets Line to match lost and found pets with owners, investigates animal cruelty reports, and helps to educate the community on animal care and the pet overpopulation problem.
Benewah County Humane Society, Inc. operates Hope’s Haven Animal Shelter, providing for animal welfare in Benewah County – an area covering approximately 500 square miles. We are a No-Kill Shelter with a full house and a waiting list for incoming pets. We are run by dedicated staff and volunteers who spend much of their own time and money caring for homeless pets. Funding comes from our Thrift Shop (located next to the Shelter), adoption fees, donations, fundraisers and grants. We receive minimal funding from City & County governments. Our mission is to spay/neuter all animals, find homes for needy animals and educate the public on pet care and spay/neuter programs. Millions of animals are needlessly euthanized every year, and we would like to lower these terribly large numbers. In 2009 we adopted 203 animals, arranged neuter/spays for 185 animals, and had a recorded total of 11,295 volunteer hours. Some of our volunteers foster animals in their own homes when we are too full to take any more animals.
Shelter business hours are Monday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. (PST) Thrift Shop hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, except Thursday hours are 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please support YOUR local humane society with donations, volunteer time and spaying or neutering your pets!
