Our Mission

Huntsville Animal Services is a municipal ran entity of the city of Huntsville, AL.  We accept pets from citizens, not only in Huntsville, but rural Madison County as well.  As you might imagine, this is a HUGE load on us as we work to combat the problem with unwanted pet overpopulation.  Currently, we take in over 6,000 dogs, cats, rabbits and more each and every year.  Shelter staff and volunteers work tirelessly on and off the clock to save as many of these animals as possible but we can not do it alone.  We need your help!  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spay/neuter your pets and choose adoption when you look to add to your furry family!

Adoption Policy

Our friendly shelter staff is available 6 days a week to help you with your pet adoption needs.  We kindly ask that you plan to have your adoption completed 30 minutes prior to closing as our clerks need that time to close out paperwork for the day.

Adoption fees range in price depending on what pet license option you choose (if you live in the City of Huntsville).  Should you have a question regarding the adoption fees on a particular animal, please call or come by the shelter with the animal ID# for the one you are inquiring about and someone would be glad to assist you.

We have two petting rooms and three outdoor play yards.  Please ask a Huntsville Animal Services associate for assistance when you arrive.

We invite you to come to Huntsville Animal Services and have a look around.  While many people write us off as just a "dog pound", we think yo
