Hello and thank you for visiting - A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions.
We want to thank all of you, including the local businesses listed below, for showing interest in our fur kids. Without your support, donations of $, food and supplies, we would not be able to continue these services and save some deserving lives.
If you haven't yet found the pet of your dreams keep looking on our homepage here on Petfinder, Our Adoptable Pet List or search other rescues and shelters on www.petfinder.com or Adopt-a-Pet.com.
Thanking you more than can ever be adequately expressed.
A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions of Hillsboro, Ohio, began in July of 2010 when two people began rescuing dogs from the Highland County, Ohio, dog pound where they had a high likelihood of being euthanized. Since then, A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions started rescuing stray and abandoned animals and an occasional owner-surrendered pet. A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions operates out of private homes meaning space is extremely limited. The operation is NOT affiliated with the Highland County dog pound, the Humane Society or any other formal organization.
Adult dogs are spayed/neutered, wormed, treated for fleas and receive rabies, distemper, parvo and influenza vaccinations. Puppies will have been wormed, treated for fleas and begun their vaccination series whenever possible. In addition they are fed, sheltered and transported to adoption sites and are provided medical attention if it becomes necessary. All of this is at personal expense supplemented by donations and adoption fees. Documentation with specifics will be provided at the time the adoption fee is received and ownership transferred.
The majority of A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions animals are obtained from pounds or as strays, therefore they come with little information on their history, breed, age or temperament. Veterinarians are asked to estimate age and breed when possible but there is NO guarantee as to accuracy. It is simply a guess based upon size, appearance and temperament of the animal. When possible, adopting families are provided with information on what has been observed during the time the animal has been fostered, regarding how they socialize, behave with other animals, walk on lead, behave with children, etc., but again this cannot be guaranteed.
A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions utilizes an Adoption Agreement that you may be required to fill out prior to you taking an animal home. In some circumstances 'trial' adoptions may be considered, allowing you to take an animal home for up to 7 days to determine if they will fit into your family and life style. Final adoption donations (between $100-$125 on average,) will be required at the time you remove the dog from our care. If, for some reason, you feel it necessary to return the animal to A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions, we will retain one-fourth of your adoption donation and the balance will be returned to you. If for any reason you are unable to keep an adopted pet and return it to us after any trial period or; if no trial period was arranged and the pet is returned, none of your fee will be refunded.
We love all of our animals. Our goal is to ensure they find Forever Homes and live out their natural lives with loving, happy families. If, after adopting, you at any time find you are unable to keep the animal, our Adoption Agreement states you will ALWAYS contact us FIRST and make arrangements to return the animal to us. We will then make every effort to find them another home as they need and deserve. Thank you for helping us and the dogs and cats we offer.

A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions may request an Adoption Questionnaire be completed when you indicate interest in adopting one of our foster kids. When a final adoption is arranged, an Adoption Agreement will be executed obtaining the name, address and phone number of the adopting family. This allows us to contact you a week or two after the adoption to answer any questions you may have and ensure all is going well.

Because A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions is a rescue comprised of private individuals, we find forever homes for our dogs by transporting them to various locations throughout the area and introducing them to the public. We foster our animals at our homes so at this time we do not have a physical site you can visit unless you contact us and schedule a time in advance.
|A special thanks to our friends Tony and Chastity at Petland in Hillsboro, Ohio. This store is privately owned and managed. They do NOT now, nor have they EVER, offered puppy mill animals to their customers. Instead, they provide the means for shelters and rescues to present their animals to the public.|
