    Who We Are

The Nicholas County Animal Shelter's mission is to provide humane care and treatment and a safe place for all strays and unwanted pets. We accept all domesticated animals and make arangements for wildlife to be turned over to the WV DNR. We intervene with the Nicholas County Sheriff Department in cases of animal cruelty and seek to return lost animals to their owners. We also strive to promote the adoption of as many animals as possible and increase public awareness as to the importance of spaying/neutering and the need for responisble pet care. SPAY NEUTER STOPS THE KILLING. NO-BIRTH IS THE FIRST STEP TO NO-KILL.

    Adopting a friend

Are adoption fees are $20.00 for canines and $20.00 for felines. Plus a $50.00 spay / neuter fee for dogs and a $25.00 spay / neuter fee for cats. this spay / neuter fee is refunded to you when you have your new pet altered in the time period given. This includes their initial vaccination and worming and a discount on their spay or neuter at the local veternarian. There is a written contract which the adopting owner must sign which requires that any animal which has not already been altered shall be spayed or neutered by a deadline set by the shelter. Our local veternarion discounts the cost of surgery and mandatory rabies vaccination. Failure to do so will result in the animal being returned to the shelter.

    Rescue Friendly

We are very Rescue Friendlyto reputable rescures. We appreciate any and all help and support you can provide. Are goal is to save all the animal's lives, but we need your help to do that.

Are guidelines are simlpe.  1) We ask for vet references and a copy of your adoption policies.
     2) We do NOT charge a pull fee to reputable rescues. If we vaccinate we ask for reinbursement at the time of the transport. If you want vetting done prior to transport arrangements can be made at the local vet's office; Nicholas Animal Hospital 304-872-5030.
     3) We will not hold an animal for a Rescue. If you want the animal and it gets adopted locally before transport can be arranged, we will adopt the animal out. We apologize but, this opens up more room for us. Once transport is arranged we will hold for a few days, providing we have the space.
     4) Feel free to ask and we will assist you.
