Adopting a friend

Adoption Process
- View FVHA's adoptable animals at the shelter during regular hours or online from home. Each animal at the shelter has a "bio sheet" that will give you info about the pet's age, personality and ideal home.
- Visit with your potential new pet in one of our private get-acquainted rooms. This is the perfect place for your whole family to get to know the pet you've chosen. We require that all individuals living in the home come out and meet the animal to ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding the potential adoption of the animal. If you have a dog and are adopting another dog, we require the two dogs to meet before adoption to ensure their compatibility.
- Submit an adoption application. FVHA's written adoption application is a tool for matching you and your family with the best animal for your household. We use your answers to make sure the pet you've chosen will truly fit into your lifestyle, to ensure that you and your pet are happy for years to come. To print or fill out an application online, click here. Drop your application off at the shelter, fax it to (920)733-5347, or email it to
- Be patient. If you haven't adopted from us before, we will need some time (usually a day) to check your references. You will receive a call from FVHA if your application has been approved. If you are approved, you can stop by to pick up your new companion right away! (Please bring a leash and collar or carrier for your new animal. Carriers are required for cats and small animals.)
Please note: FVHA often has more than one application for a particular animal. Please keep in mind that our goal is to match you with a loving, lifelong pet, in a situation where all those affected, both human and animal, will be happy. If you do not receive your first choice pet, it is because another home was a better match for that particular pet's unique needs. Please choose another of the wonderful pets we have to offer!
