Who We Are
The Whatcom Humane Society(WHS) was founded in 1902. We are the oldest non-profit animal welfare organization in Whatcom County.
WHS is an open-admission shelter. We turn no animals away regardless of age, medical condition or temperament.
WHS provides care and shelter for approximately 5,000 domestic and native wild animals each year.

Open Wednesday thru Saturday, 10am - 6pm, Sunday & Monday, 11am-5pm. Closed Tuesday and Major Holidays

The Whatcom Humane Society provides animal control and rescue services for Whatcom County.
Investigation of cases involving animal neglect and cruelty.
Spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, deworming and microchip identification PRIOR to adoption.
Wildlife Rehabilitation Services Center providing care for injured and orphaned native wildlife in need.
Operation of 10 acre farm property caring for unwanted horses and other livestock in need.
Pet food bank program, providing pet food to low income residents in need.

Adopting a Friend
The Whatcom Humane Society makes every effort to place animals into permanent, responsible and loving homes. WHS staff and volunteers counsel potential adopters to place animals in an enviornment that is compatible with his/her needs:
IN ORDER TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL, POTENTIAL ADOPTERS WILL NEED TO:
Be financially able to provide for the animals needs. This includes food, supplies, veterinary care and license.
Have adequate time to spend with their new pet, including time for training, exercise and grooming.
Have permission form their landlord to bring an animal onto his/her property.
Be at least 18 years of age and have verifiable identification.
Have the consent of all adults in the household.
Complete and adoption application and discuss it with a WHS adoption counselor.
Be willing to bring in their current dog to meet the new dog.
Be willing to bring in their children to meet the animal.
As of February 1, 2015 we have new adoption fees for dogs and cats. They are:
Kittens/Cats under 1 year of age $115.00
Two Kittens Adopted Together/Same Day $200.00
Cats 1 year – 5 year of age $ 50.00
Cats 5 + years of age $ 30.00
Puppies/Dogs under 1 year of age $125.00
Dogs 1 year – 5 year of age $ 85.00
Dogs 5 + years of age $ 60.00
