September 26, 2012: Open Hearts Rescue formally incorporated and filed for charity status. We hope to gain more volunteer support, as that will determine the number of animals we can save.
We have dogs of all ages and breeds already in fosters, but will also work with adopters to pull animals from the kill shelters. Our primary focus is to save as many animals as possible to be placed in loving forever homes.
All volunteer group that rescue homeless animals. We provide the necessary medical care, spay and neuter to prepare pets for their adoptive homes. We also participate in community events, educating the public on the importance of sterlizing their pets to help end pet over population. Additionally we stress the importance of maintaining vaccinations and well-pet care.
We are not a shelter. We are a rescue group. All of our dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters, fully vetted, and brought into our foster care system. By putting our dogs in foster care, we have a better idea of how they will do in a home environment. This also allows our fosters to work on basic training, such as housebreaking, crate training and leash skills. We are a very small group of volunteers working together to enhance the lives of the animals that come into our care. Because of our small size, we do ask that you submit an application for the dog that you are interested in meeting. Once the application is approved, we schedule meet and greets. We take great care when describing our dogs so as not to waste anyone's time.
We do have the ability to handle out of state adoptions. If you are interested in adopting a dog and are not in the VA/MD/DC/NC area, please contact us!
