About Us

Adopting A Friend

Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Pet Rescue Alliance. Adopting a pet is a big commitment and we will do our best to help you through the process. There are many things to consider when bringing a new member into your family. Below are the steps toward adopting your new Pet:

  1. Please submit our Online Application Form and one our volunteers will contact you within 24 hours of your submission to let you know we received it.
  2. We will review your application and ensure the pet you are interested in is in fact best suited for you and your family.
  3. If it seems you are a good fit for each other based on the information you provided, a phone interview will follow. We will contact you to discuss your application and arrange for a home visit.
    1. If you are renting, we require proof that you are allowed to have a pet
    2. If you have had pet previously, we require vet information and we will contact them to verify that your pets are in good health
  4. The home visit is done to ensure the prospective adopter can provide a safe, nurturing family for the new pet. Also the volunteer can answer questions and discuss safety precautions.
  5. We will make arrangements for your entire family to meet the pet you are interested in adopting.
    1. If adopting a dog, you current dog(s) must be present at the meeting to ensure that they are compatible.
  6. If the pet chosen that is a fit for you and/or your family is not ready to be adopted, (example: young puppies, or pending veterinary care) a hold will be placed on the dog until he or she is ready to be released.
  7. An tax-deductible adoption fee will be collected at the time of placement. This fee helps defray medical expenses to properly vet the dog (shots, neutering, etc.), costs of keeping the animal in either a foster home or a kennel and other expenses that have been incurred.
  8. Once you have adopted a pet, your relationship with Pet Rescue Alliance is not over! We will always consider you a part of our alliance. We can even setup a blog designed just for you to post and keep us updated on anything and everything about your pet.

Disclaimer: Pet Rescue Alliance reserves the right to accept or decline any person or family as adopters for any reason. The final decision on all adoptions is up to the vote of the board of directors.

Who We Are

About Us

Pet Rescue Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization specializing in the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of homeless dogs, cats, small birds, and pocket pets (guinea pigs, gerbils, mice, etc.). Our vision is a day when pets of all kinds can escape their previous lives of abuse or neglect and live in homes where they can provide their new family with unconditional love and be given the same in return. Although we are based out of Northern Virginia, we are reaching out to animal lovers in all states to help us form a nationwide alliance to achieve this goal.
