Our Pet List
The Henrico Humane Society is dedicated to working within the greater Richmond community to end animal over-population and ensure that all animals receive proper care.
To help operate an adoption stand, transport animals and equipment, hold animals or lease walk them, and talk to the general public. Helpers are needed to assist with the web site, presenting educational programs, newsletter design and distribution, and assisting at special events.
Henrico Humane Society (HHS) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in 1991 to address the increasing problem of pet overpopulation in the greater Richmond area. HHS does not have a shelter and is run entirely by volunteers and has no paid staff. The organization relies on donations, membership dues, and fund-raising efforts for sources of income.
HHS takes in strays found in the community, rescues animals from local shelters, and accepts pets surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them. The animals are kept in temporary foster homes until permanent, loving homes are found for them. Every canine is heartworm tested, vaccinated, wormed, spayed or neutered, and placed on heartworm preventative. Every feline is tested for FELV/FIV, vaccinated, wormed and spayed/neutered. Any animal less than six months of age is adopted with a spay/neuter certificate that provides for a free procedure at six months of age. Prospective owners are carefully screened to ensure their needs are matched to an animal available for adoption.
