Who We Are

Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization established to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Shelties. Most of these Shelties have been relinquished to NVSR by owners unable to keep them. Others are found in shelters, because they are strays or have been abandoned. All our Shelties are fostered in NVSR volunteers' homes (we do not have a shelter), and any medical needs are addressed promptly and fully, including spay or neuter. They are then eligible to be adopted to carefully chosen homes, where they will be loved, well cared for, and protected. For the remainder of the adopted dogs' lives, NVSR stays in touch with the adoptive families. NVSR is a non-profit organization funded solely by donations. Our adoption fees are: Puppy through 3 years old: $350; Adults 4 through 9 years old: $250; Seniors 10 years old and older: $100. Please complete our adoption application so you may be considered for an appropriate Sheltie. Arrangements can be made for an adopter to meet a dog only after an adoption application has been accepted. We also do home visits with all our applicants. Read more about our adoption process and get the application on our Website:
