Our Featured Pet...

I need a new home, could you be my new best friend?

Shaun is a nine year old male GSD who originally was a stray in Salt Lake City. He was picked up by animal control and came to GSD rescue a few years ago, where we placed him what we had hoped was a forever home. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way and now Shaun is back with the rescue and looking for that forever home again. We want someone who will keep this sweet boy and let him know how loved he is for the rest of his life. He is calm and well behaved, but can be somewhat of an escape artist if left unattended in a poorly fenced yard, so it would be best for him to be with an apartment dweller or someone else who would keep him indoors most of the time, and he needs a securely fenced (6 foot fence) yard. He would prefer a home without cats. For more information, contact Nancy at or call 435-764-7377.

Since its beginning in February 2000, German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Utah has been able to help over 400 deserving orphans find new homes! Thank you to everyone who has helped us, by donating time, funds, toys and blankets, or web assistance. We couldn't do it all without you!

We are desperately in need of foster homes! If you live in Utah or southern Idaho and have time, love, and space for a foster dog, please contact us at 435-764-7377. Medical expenses for the dogs are provided by the rescue and time commitments are flexible. The dogs need some individual care and attention and someone to help start them on housebreaking and teaching them house manners.

Who We Are

German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Utah is operating as a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and re-homing orphaned German Shepherd Dogs (GSDs) in Utah and surrounding states of the Intermountain West. We have been in existance since early February, 2000, and in that time have placed over 400 wonderful dogs into new homes.

We are located in Logan, UT which is 1.5 hours north of Salt Lake City and just 20 miles from the Utah/Idaho border.

We place animals in Utah and surrounding states including Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming and Nevada. We do place dogs in other states, it is just more difficult to arrange transportation, thus that is generally left up to the adopting party.

Adopting a friend

The first step to adopt a pet from GSD Rescue is submitting a completed application. You can download a Microsoft Word format file by going to our main webpage at (application is near the bottom of the page) and e-mail the saved, completed document back as an attachment. You may also print it out and snail mail it to our mailing address.

All animals adopted from GSD Rescue of Utah are spayed or neutered prior to adoption unless their health prevents such surgery, in such cases the dog will be placed on a spay/neuter contract and followup visits WILL be made to ensure that the dog is properly sterilized. All dogs will receive rabies and parvo/distemper shots, be heartworm tested, and be started on heartworm preventative. New owners are required to maintain the dogs on heartworm preventative after adoption.

Adoption fees paid to GSD Rescue of Utah are considered a donation to assist us in our mission to rescue and rehome additional orphaned animals and as such are generally non-refundable. All dogs adopted from GSD Rescue of Utah must be returned to GSD Rescue of Utah in the event that the placement does not work out satisfactorily.

Come Visit Us!

Visiting the rescued GSDs housed by GSD Rescue of Utah is by appointment only. We do not have a "bricks and mortar" shelter and thus use a variety of foster homes and boarding kennels to house our animals. When you have been approved for adoption, we can make arrangements for you to meet one or more of the wonderful GSDs that we have looking for a home.
