Our 2006 featured pet was a BOUVIER DES FLANDERS named "Dutchess". She is alot like a Giant Schnauzer. Dutchess was adopted at the Henderson's Heritage Syrup Festival in November. At present RCAO is not featuring a pet, but we will select one for 2007. Keep watching to see the 2007 special pet.

We are in great need of REVOLUTION or FRONTLINE products to protect our dogs and cats from heartworms, fleas, and ticks. We especially need the following sizes: DOGS: 41 to 85 lbs & 21 to 40 lbs.; CATS: 5 to 15 lbs.
THANKS to all donations made toward our Featured Pet "Dutchess". When she was diagnoised positive with heartworms we were able to raise enough money to cover the cost to have her treatments. She did very well and even got adopted and is now very happy with her new owner.
RCAO now has a "Heartworm Treatment Fund" that you can send money contributions to. This fund is set up to help those animals that we get in who have been diagnoised with heartworms. By having the money available RCAO can immediately start treatment on them without having to wait until the money is raised. Please send donations to RCAO and earmark the check for "Heartworm Treatment Fund".

This year's (2006) Henderson Block Party & Movie in the Sky Event had a great turnout of animal lovers. RCAO hosted the "Pet Parade & Pet Contest". We had alot of participates who brought their animal companions to take part in the events. The evening was alot of fun and we got to meet and visit with people throughout the community.
Rusk County Animal Outreach, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in Rusk County , Texas in 1995 by a group of local citizens interested in the welfare of animals in our community. We are not a shelter ourselves but work with the local shelter and individuals to promote adoption and the fostering of animals until they can be adopted. We are in the process of developing fundraising and building plans for our own shelter but are not there yet. In the mean time, our main goal it to see as many animals as possible placed in loving homes around our community.
ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS WE WILL SHIP ANIMALS. If you wish to adopt an animal and do not live close by, you will be responsible for coming and picking the animal up. In some cases, we will be able to meet you part of the way if you are driving, but you will be responsible for compensating RCAO $.48 per mile for the RCAO volunteer's travel. Transportation arrangements have to be approved by us before an adoption will be allowed.
We try to vaccinate the dogs that come to us...unfortunately we are not set up to take many cats and therefore do not vaccinate or test very many. We also try to put all our dogs on some kind of flea/tick/heartworm preventative if we have the medications available. Further, some of the animals we receive are ill and require some medical attention prior to their being adopted. We have increased our donation fees just a little to help cover those costs, but more money is needed. If you'd like to make a donation to RCAO, please use the link below or mail your donation to P. O. Box 273, Henderson, TX 75653. Checks can be made payable to the RCAO.
We have a pre-adoption application which MUST be completed in order for an animal to be adopted. IF YOU NEED A PRE-ADOPTION FORM, PLEASE EMAIL firstname.lastname@example.org OR CALL 903-657-9317. Please go to www.rcao.org to download the form and emailed to email@example.com
Please use the contact information below if you need an application faxed to you.
Several of the animals listed are in foster care. Contact Kim at 903-657-9317 to schedule an appointment to meet each animal.
The dogs and cats that come to us vary in their adoption fee but included in all are coupons for their rabies shot, initial medical exam, and spay/neuter through our RCAO shelter adoption program. The fee varies due to medical treatment a dog or cat may require.
We work entirely out of foster homes so we have no facility to visit but you may view our website at ... SEE CONTACT INFORMATION BELOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. www.rcao.org
Although we try to keep pictures and animal information updated, we are not always able to do so. Please contact us about an animal if interested in adopting. Thank you!
