Who We Are

Young County Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of all animals. We are strong advocates of "spay and neuter all pets" to reduce the overpopulation problems that we now face. Our shelter takes in an average of 170 pets per month and is forced to euthanize many wonderful pets due to lack of quality homes and lack of shelter space. There will never be enough homes available for all the dogs and cats being born today. The only answer to this problem is the spaying and neutering of all pets.

We depend on donations to fund our shelter operations and animal welfare programs. We serve all of Young County and several surrounding counties. We are also the reclaim center for Graham Animal Control. We are currently networking with several other shelters to help find homes for more animals. We also work with breed rescue organizations when possible.

Adopting a Friend

Our animals are available for adoption during our business hours. The adoption fee for dogs is $75.00 and for cats is $50.00. This fee includes one round of the necessary shots, including rabies, deworming, and the spay/neuter of the animal. Our adoption fee does not currently cover a heartworm test. If you want the pet heartworm tested before adoption, you must request it and pay for it. You need to be 18 years old to adopt a pet. We do check references before adopting a pet to a new owner and we sometimes do home visits. We want our pets to have a good loving home that they can stay in for the rest of their lives. We prefer not to ship pets before adopters are able to meet them, but have made exceptions. It is very hard for us to send a pet via air during the summer...our temps here are often around a 100 degrees or more and that's too hot to ship! If you are interested in one of our pets, please EMAIL to request an application. We can email or snail mail an application or if needed we can even interview over the phone! You can also fax your application in (940)521-0792.

Volunteering and Donations

We encourage anyone who has a heart for our furry friends to call us up and volunteer. We can always use help and the work that needs to be done is not always at the shelter or working directly with the animals. Please, call us if you have some spare time you would like to give. We are supported by donations from the public. We accept cash or items that can be used, and a receipt will be provided if requested.

We need volunteers to help with transportation for our dogs and cats to rescue groups. Most of these runs go from Graham to the Ft Worth/Dallas area-sometimes Decatur or Denton...If you are able to drive a dog or two occasionally, please give us a call or drop an email. Your time would be greatly appreciated and you'll most definately be helping to save lives. We can also use foster homes. If you have room in your home to house a dog or cat until a permanent home can be found--let us know. I'm sure we can find a furry friend that would fit your household.

Our Spay/Neuter fund is always in need of donations. This fund allows us to help low-income families to spay or neuter their pets. We know that the only way we will ever stop the endless cycle of pet overpopulation is by spaying and neutering pet dogs and cats. Please support this fund! Since building our new facility we have not had the funding needed to keep the spay/neuter fund going. Please consider a donation in this area to help end the over population problem. Remember Every Litter Hurts.

You can visit our furry friends at our new facility at 120 Craig Street in Graham. From Hwy 380, turn north on Graham Eastl Blvd. You'll find our new shelter directly across from the new Young County Arena on Craig Street.
