URGENT!! URGENT!! URGENT!! WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES! Houston has many beagles needing rescue, but there just isn't enough room. More foster homes = more saved Beagles. If you can foster, even short term (2 weeks), please contact us. Bluebonnet Beagle Rescue will cover the cost of all veterinary needs and will reimburse the foster family for the cost of food. All you have to do is care for the foster as you would for your own Beagle. Please spread the word!

UPDATE: WE HAVE AN AUCTION! Please visit our main website to see what Beagle items are up for bid. Items change every week so check often. All proceeds go to the rescue beagles. If you would like to make a donation, please send it to the address at the bottom. We are desperately in need of monetary donations to help cover the cost of veterinary treatment including heartworm treatment, deworming, shots, and other necessary treatments. We are also in need of kennels, food bowls, leashes, collars, toys. Also, if you are interested in becoming a foster parent for a needy Beagle, please contact us. We are desperate for more foster families. The more foster families we have, the more Beagles we can save.

Who We Are

Bluebonnet Beagle Rescue started accidentally, when we began to take in beagles needing homes one at a time. We have loved the breed for many, many years and beagles have been a part of our lives for over 30 years. The need for a real rescue organization in the area became apparent with each tear we shed after turning down a beagle in need due to lack of space etc. Soon we had to make a tough decision. Did we want to keep on as we were or move out of our home in a residential subdivision and forego retirement for some extra years to move someplace that we could start a real rescue operation. So, we went to the dogs, so to speak, and moved out of the city and into the country outside of Houston, Texas. Due to financial considerations, we are still working on getting the place the way it should be to handle all of the rescues in the best way possible and still call it home for us humans as well. But, amazingly enough, thanks to the help of a lot of people, we're getting there slowly but surely. Bluebonnet Beagle Rescue is a Texas non-profit corporation and has attained "tax exempt" status with the IRS. Our goal is to take beagles from abusive or neglectful situations, to save them from euthanasia, to take strays and find "forever" homes for them. The officers and directors of Bluebonnet are Pat Coffey, Bob Coffey and Elaine Wright. Assistant director is Allison Hardman. We are very proud of the number of beagles who have passed through Bluebonnet and into their forever homes. We are also very proud of the loving families and individuals who have taken these wonderful dogs into their lives and hearts. We could not have done, nor could we continue to do this work if it were not for the wonderful folks who support us through their generous donations. They are the real reason that rescue works. They are our angels.

Adopting a Friend

You must be at least 18 years old to adopt a beagle. Beagles adopted from Bluebonnet are to be companion animals and family members. They are to be given proper nourishment, medical care and love. All male and female beagles must be neutered or spayed. Beagles cannot be adopted as gifts. Adopted beagles are to have ID tags, rabies and locally required license tags. Other animals already in the family must be up to date on shots. You must keep the beagle for at least 3 weeks to give it a chance to adapt. If you surrender your adopted beagle for any reason it must come back to us still up to date on shots and not requiring medical attention due to to neglect or abuse. There is an adoption fee, currently at $150.00. This is a bargain as the fee goes for spay/neuter, shots, boarding and feeding, heartworm test and fecal test and all other medical treatment often including heartworm treatment. (In the case of pups, it includes shots as required until the time of adoption and a certificate for spay/neuter at the appropriate age.) The adoption fee does not come close to covering the actual expense to rescue. Your beagle comes to you with all shots and spayed/neutered. Your beagle is probably crate trained and well on it's way to being housebroken. With the exception of the puppies, your beagle is past the chewing stage saving you plenty of money on shoes, pantyhose etc.
