The Highland Lakes SPCA is located in the Highland Lakes area of central Texas and serves Burnet, Llano, Blanco and Travis counties. We are near the towns of Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, Burnet, Spicewood and Kingsland. We are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit group composed entirely of volunteers and funded only by donations and fund raisers. We receive NO financial assistance from any national level, nor do we have contracts with any local municipalities. We rely solely on the generosity of our commmunity for both monetary and volunteer support.
We are a no kill organization--we DO NOT kill any of the animals in our care unless it is determined that to euthanize the animal would be the humane thing to do because of their health. We work to take animals out of local animal control facilities. We also take in animals from people who have found abandoned and unwanted pets. We work with the local law enforcement agencies on neglect and abuse cases and help place those animals where and when appropriate.
We actively speak with individuals about getting their animals spayed and neutered, since we believe that spaying and neutering is the only way to control pet overpopulation and thus halt needless euthanizing of animals.
We recommend contacting any of our local veterinarians to spay or neuter your pet and to continue vaccination schedules and long-term health care regimens for your pets. Please call us if you are new to the area and would like a recommendation. We can also put you in touch with the low cost spay/neuter clinics that come to our area.
We are always in need of more volunteers. Even if you can't help with an adoption, we can still use your talents. Are you artistic? A good public speaker? Good with children? We need people to help run a booth, prepare a school program or help design flyers. If you would consider helping, please call us. We will be happy to work with you to place you in a volunteer position which is enjoyable to you and which suits your interests. Come out and help today. Your help is invaluable in saving abandoned and neglected animals. New volunteer orientation is available from time to time. Call for the next scheduled orientation.
The fee for adoptions covers the cost of the spay or neuter, rabies shots and distemper/parvo for dogs as appropriate for the age of the animal and the length of time it has been in our possession. In compliance with Texas law, we also microchip all of our spayed and neutered adoptable animals.
