About Us

The Economy & The Rescue World

There is a new trend we are seeing,

Dogs abandoned by their rescuers at boarding facilities, is it the economy or lack of commitment that makes some one walk away from a dog a crisis?

It’s no news that all rescues are now overwhelmed, but how can an individual rescue a dog off the streets just to abandon them again, three dogs have recently been abandoned here at Dogtown Ranch, and it is beginning to weigh on finances as these dogs need vaccinations, food, monthly heartworm and flea prevention, Dogtown Ranch offers low cost boarding and rehab to rescues for dogs that do not do well in a traditional boarding kennel setting.

Our Vet Bills are through the roof at this point with a special needs horse that had extensive surgery and care and the sickness and ultimate passing of one our permanent residents just last week,

For us to continue to care for these animals we need donations to cover the medical and monthly expenses of our dogs in need, that remain at the Sanctuary

For every dog that is abandoned here at Dogtown it is not a burden of care it is a financial burden that is weighing heavily on our future,

Please donate anything you can, all donations are tax deductible!!

Adopting A Friend

Please answer the following questions before deciding on your potential dog. We try to ensure the best possible match between animal and adopter. Remember that this is a lifetime commitment. You will be asked to sign a legal contract when adopting one of our dogs and you must pay an adoption fee of $200. This fee includes spaying or neutering. The fees go directly to Dogtown Ranch to help pay for upkeep and medical care. Keep in mind the following points:

·     The adopter must be within driving distance of Rockdale, Texas.  We do not ship dogs.

·     Dogs must be housed indoors.  An onsite visit is required.

·     Dogs live an average of 10 - 12 years. We are looking for those special adopters who will make every effort possible to keep their companion for the entire life of the dog despite life style changes (divorce, moving, etc).

·     Dogs may not be adopted as gifts. All members of a household should visit the prospective dog and apply for adoption.

·     Dogs will not be placed in a home where there is an unneutered or unspayed dog.

·     We do not adopt dogs to children. We DO adopt dogs to families. An adult must sign the adoption contract. Please do not have your children call or email. Applicants under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian apply on their behalf.

Who We Are

Our Mission

Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab promotes education and training for persecuted and misunderstood bully breeds, but accepts all canine breeds in crisis, dogs needing to get off the streets and dogs needing to be rescued from euthanasia lists, and abusive situations.

Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab will take in emergency injuries and injured Pit Bulls that have been subjected to dog fighting or abusive situations, that would otherwise have been euthanized and unwanted because of their past.

Mugsy’s Fund was established  by Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab to provide funding for severely injured Pit Bulls, but has since accommodated the need to help all breeds, and work with all Rescue Groups that need assistance in emergency injury cases that have no where else for them to go.

Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab provides a safe respite for abused animals and a forever home for them to live out their lives in an environment that reinforces their self esteem, security and confidence, with love, a warm bed of their own, and lots of food, toys and friends to play with.

Dogtown Ranch Sanctuary Rescue and Rehab will never turn away an animal in need and is NO KILL under any circumstances, we just don’t give up on them, they are not disposable here.
