About Us

Friends of League City Animal Shelter is a 100% volunteer non-profit rescue group dedicated to reducing the unwanted animal population, by educating the public on the importance of ADOPTING RATHER THAN BUYING, and STERILIZING RATHER THAN BREEDING. We rescue animals from the shelters, and show them off at our weekend adoption events. The animals find forever homes, and the public gets to see the quality of animals that can be found at our shelters. It's win-win!! We also educate the public on the exponential number of kittens and puppies that can result from a single breeding pair. We make sure that all of our foster animals get spayed or neutered, and provide the public with information on clinics that provide LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER.

We are so thankful for the people of Texas who take our shelter animals into their hearts and homes and provide us with the funds needed to provide the community with animals that are healthy, vaccinated, and sterilized.

About Our Animals

Most of our animals come from shelters in Galveston County. Once rescued, the animals live with our volunteer foster moms and dads who give them the love and care they need to prepare for life in their forever homes. We visit the shelters often, so we usually have a good selection of quality cats, kittens, and small dogs available for adoption. Don't see a foster that catches your eye? Let us know what you're looking for, and we can check the shelters. It's unfortunate, but our shelters always have a variety of great animals looking for loving homes.

Our Weekend Adoption Events

Hurry out this weekend to meet our foster dogs and cats! On Saturdays, you can find us in League City (I-45 @ 646) at PETSMART from 11-3pm and at PETCO from 12-4pm. On Sundays, we're at the Clear Lake PETCO (Bay Area Blvd @ Space Center) from 11-3pm. If you want to meet a particular foster animal, please email us ahead of time, so we can make sure s/he is there. Can't wait until the weekend? With an approved application, we can sometimes arrange a meeting during the week. Just ask!

Adopting Your New Friend

Ready to take home a little bundle of love? You can submit an Adoption Application in-person during one of our weekend adoption events or any time via email. We will review your application and discuss your preferences so we can make the best owner-pet match. Applications submitted via email can usually be pre-approved, meaning that you can attend the event that weekend, select your pet, and take it home with no delay. We cannot guarantee same-day approval of applications submitted at weekend events, since there may not be a volunteer on duty who is qualified to make approvals.

Our basic ADOPTION FEE is $75 for cats and $85 for dogs. This basic fee covers sterilization (spaying or neutering), rabies vaccination, and microchip placement with registration. The adoption fee may be slightly higher, if we paid for any testing or vaccinations that are typically the responsibility of the new owner. The adoption fee will always be stated prior to the adoption. Unsterilized puppies & kittens require a $75 STERILIZATION DEPOSIT. Once we have proof that the pup/kit was sterilized, the $75 deposit will be promptly returned.

NOTE: We do not ship animals. You must meet us in person to pick up your new pet.

Click here to learn about our VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. Our greatest need is for volunteers to work at our WEEKEND ADOPTION EVENTS. It's a lot of fun and you get to play with dogs and kittens! We also need foster parents, a web designer, and volunteers to take on leadership roles in promotions, event planning, volunteer coordination, and fundraising.

We also encourage everyone to consider volunteering at one of our animal shelters. The Galveston County Animal Resource Center is struggling with a super-tight budget, and is especially desperate for volunteers, to play with the animals, and help clean everything before they open the doors to the public each day. They need volunteers every day of the week. We hope you can help them out. It's a really nice facility, and the volunteers there are awesome!!
