NOM NOM GOURMET POPCORN!  The Humane Society of East Tennessee´s fundraising efforts are underway again this year and we are excited to be selling NOM NOM GOURMET POPCORN! With your generous support, we will be able to purchase important items for our shelter Pets. The funds raised this year will help us purchase and provide food, medical care and life-saving vaccines. They will also help us pay for spay and neuter services for each pet PRIOR to it being adopted, eliminating any possibility of reproducing, (which in turn reduces euthanasia rates at Municipal Shelters). Your support can help a lonely cat, homeless dog, senior pet, puppy mill puppy or puppy mill mama dog find new hope. Please help these precious babies by purchasing some VERY TASTY POPCORN. 40% of your order will directly support our efforts! So have fun shopping and thank you for your support!  Visit our fundraising site at the link below.

Our Shelter needs cat litter and Natural Balance Cat Food.  Natural Balance Cat Food can be purchased ($20.00) locally at Smokey Mountain Feed @ 312 Gill Street in Alcoa, TN or by calling 865-977-0689 and ordering/paying by phone. They will call us for pick up.  Thanks!

Adopting A Friend

LOOK FOR THE WORD "TWOFUR" IN OUR LISTINGS!  We have several pairs of cats or kittens that are very attached to one another and they will need to be adopted together.  If you see the word "TWOFUR" in our listing, that means you get TWO PETS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE.  It's the least we can do to help "bonded pairs" get adopted together into their forever home!  Remember, twice the fun, twice as nice, but certainly not twice the price!

All of our adoptable pets are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They also receive vaccinations, a deworming, flea & tick treatment and a microchip. Cats 4 months and older are tested for Feline Leukemia and dogs 6 months and older are tested for Heartworms. Our puppies and dogs receive a monthly dose of heartworm preventative.

If you currently have pets in your home, we require that they have the same or better standard of care that we provide our adoptable pets. Therefore, if you have a dog(s), it must be on heartworm preventative and flea control and it must be up to date on all necessary vaccinations.

If you have a cat(s) it must have been tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids (Combo Test) and tested negative for both. Cats must be up to date on their vaccinations.

Please remember that the animals in our care have already had a rough start, suffered abandonment, loss, etc.  Our screening process helps match these animals to the right home, what we hope will be their forever home.

Who We Are

The Humane Society of East Tennessee is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to helping companion animals and others find good homes. We rescue dogs and cats from local municipal shelters that euthanize and we accept animals from the general public. EVERY animal we rescue stays with us until it is adopted and we never euthanize one animal to make room for another, nor do we send them elsewhere to be euthanized. Each animal we rescue is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested, dewormed and microchipped prior to adoption. Our adoption fees range from $75.00 - $150.00 and include the above mentioned services as well as free lifetime micro-chip registration and 30 days of Pet Shelter Care Insurance.

Our Mission Statement: The mission and purpose of the Humane Society of East Tennessee is to promote the welfare of animals, to strengthen the human-animal bond and to further the cause of responsible animal adoption and ownership through education and public awareness. The Society actively promotes kindness, the elimination of cruelty to and neglect of all animals, and the lifelong commitment of people to their pets.

Funding: We receive no State, City or County Funding. The animals in our care rely on the kindness and generosity of our community for all basic needs and medical care. So from cat litter to toys, to yummy treats and office supplies, we are always in need of things to create a home away from home for our most special of guests, the animals.
