Greyhound Pets of America/Nashville

Our Adoptable Greyhound List

Who We Are

Greyhound Pets of America/Nashville is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, Inc., a nationwide non-profit, volunteer-supported organization dedicated to the placement of retired racing Greyhounds into homes as companion animals. GPA/N works to place retired racing Greyhounds into companion homes the middle Tennessee, southern and western Kentucky areas.

GPA/N relies exclusively upon Greyhound-savvy families to act as temporary "foster homes" for retired Greyhounds to help each hound make the transition to home life while awaiting adoption.

The foster family helps the Greyhound:

It is through this program, with the commitment of volunteers, that we work to place the right Greyhound in the right home.

For more information, please visit our website at:

Adopting A Companion

Our adoption fee is $250, which helps off set our organization's costs of readying Greyhounds for adoption.

REIKO Every Greyhound :

Each greyhound comes to you with a 6 month supply of heartworm preventative and a starter bag of the premium dog food they've been fed.
We also provide a martingale collar, matching lead, and basket muzzle with every adoption.

GPA/Nashville's volunteers work closely with each prospective Greyhound adopter to match the adopter with a Greyhound whose personality and temperament is most ideally suited to the adopters home situation and expectations. Adopting from GPA/N starts by filling out an application and sending it (along with a $50 fee deposit) to our adoption coordinator.

Once an application is received, an adoption representative will then be in contact with you to schedule a home visit. On the home visit the volunteers will bring one or more available Greyhounds who are believed to be suitable adoption candidates for the home. WIND

This procedure enables us to observe how the Greyhound will react to other animals in the home, as well as to observe interaction between the Greyhound and the adults and any children in the household.

If your application is approved and we agree on a Greyhound, an agreeable time for the adoption to be completed will be set. It is best to have a couple of days to help your new family member acclimate to his new environment.

Once you have adopted a Greyhound through from GPA Nashville, you become a member of our Greyhound family, and we are always available to answer questions and iron-out adjustment issues throughout the life of the Greyhound.

We ask all potential adopters to read Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies by Lee Livingood and families with children are asked to read Child-Proofing Your Dog by Brian Kilcommons. Both books are available for purchase through GPA Nashville.

Come Visit Us!

GPA Nashville does not have a kennel or other full time facility to maintain its Greyhounds awaiting adoption, but relies exclusively on foster homes and Greyhound trainers to care for these Greyhounds. As a result, it is not possible to come meet all of our adoptables at any one time. We have Meet & Greets weekly, at which some available Greyhounds may be in attendance.

Please see our website, for locations, dates and times.
