Who We Are

Labrador Retriever Rescue of East Tennessee is a non-profit organization that rescues and places purebred Labrador Retrievers and exceptional mixes. We are a group of volunteers with the goals of educating the public and assisting the needy Labradors whose path we cross. This organization was created to rescue, within our means, the needy and homeless, over-bred Labrador Retriever, and to bring attention to the public by providing education in regard to the problems of irresponsible breeding, irresponsible pet ownership, and the over population of pets. We advocate responsible breeding and ownership and will work within our abilities to educate, teach, and provide a hopeful future for our rescued Labrador Retrievers. Labrador Retrievers are among the most popular of the breeds, which, because of the over breeding of pet Labradors, has resulted in a correspondingly large number of rescue situations. Many Labradors enter into the rescue program from animal shelters or are surrendered to Labrador Retriever Rescue of East Tennessee by owners whose lifestyles do not compliment the Labrador’s needs. Others are rescued from puppy mills, abuse, and abandonment. Once in custody of Labrador Retriever Rescue of East Tennessee, a veterinarian checks the overall health of the dog, updates all vaccinations, tests the dog for heartworms, and spays or neuters the dog. All dogs are placed in temporary foster homes where their temperament and training levels are evaluated while awaiting adoption. We try to make sure each dog is house trained, crate trained, and has some basic obedience before being placed in an adoptive home. Labrador Retriever Rescue of East Tennessee always needs volunteer help! We need volunteers who can foster Labs, help with transportation, create newsletters, help with paper work, and provide dog evaluations. We also welcome assistance with our periodic fund raisers.
