Welcome to the Waverly Animal Shelter Petfinder site. We are employed by the City of Waverly Animal Control. We respond to calls of animals in danger, roaming strays, lost and found animals, abandoned and owner surrendered pets. We partner with The Humphreys County Humane Society and our local veterinary offices, to offer these unwanted animals a second chance at life. We work together, to help abused, abandoned, homeless, lost and unwanted animals get the medical attention, food, shelter, water, love and attention they so much deserve. Together with the help of our community and volunteers we are dedicated to finding as many homes as possible for these animals.  Humphreys County Humane Society also offers programs to help offset the costs of spaying and neutering your pet for those, who otherwise, may not be able to afford the full cost. Pet overpopulation is a serious problem, please do your part, be a responsible pet owner, spay and neuter, together we can fight pet overpopulation and save lives.

We are proud and pleased to announce, that our partnershp with Humphreys County Humane Society has also allowed us to participate in the PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' program. This progran has been essential to our shelter in saving lives, through adoption and spay/neuter grants for our community. To learn more please click here.

Adopt for LIFE

Missing Pets??
Report missing pets immediately. Don't wait a few days to see if they come back on their own. Call your local vets, Humane Society and Animal Control, post photos online of your missing pet, include description with a name and a 24 hour contact number you can be reached at. The most important thing you can do is GET THE WORD OUT

Winter Safety

It's that time of year again. Winter is upon us. Please remember to keep your pets indoors. If they must be outside, please make sure they have shelter from the elements. A house, warm, dry bedding (straw is best) and always have fresh food and water. If you are safely able to provide them with a heat source such as a heatlamp, that is great but never do so at any safety risk to them. Just because a dog or cat has fur doesn't mean they don't get cold. Their fur is like our clothing and we still need a coat when temperatures drop below freezing and they need extra protection also.

Suspect Animal Cruelty??

If you suspect cruelty to an Animal(s), PLEASE do the following:Write Down:

  • WHO is suspected?
  • WHAT happened?
  • WHERE did it happen
  • WHEN did it happen?

Then, PLEASE contact the Anti Cruelty  Team (ACT) of Waverly by calling:931-296-7319 or Tonya George, Captain of ACT)at 931-264-0957.

Call the Police if the Animal is in
danger of bodily harm or death.

For Animals who have no choice,
please stand up & use YOUR VOICE.
(Your report can remain anonymous)

Foster Homes

We are always in need of short and long term foster homes for the Humane Society. Many animals that come to us have been mistreated, starved and abused, some have never known a gentle touch or what it is like to be loved, many have lived a life of nothing but pain and fear. Others have lived a good life, in a good home, for many years, only to be thrown out - abandoned by the only family they have ever known....just because. We need your help, to help them. We need foster families to take these animals into their homes to help show them, not all humans are bad, show them love and kindness, teach them how to trust again, somewhere a family is waiting to love them forever, all they need is a little time. We also need families to foster animals who are waiting for transport, that are very stressed in the shelter environment, nursing young and just to make room for the many other homeless pets. All food and medical is covered by the Humane Society for foster pets. Please help us save as many lives as we can. If you have room in your home and heart to help one of these animals get the second chance at life they so deserve, please call us at 931-296-7319,  email:shltr@bellsouth.net.

Humphrey's County Humane Society

Humphreys County Humane Society is a non profit animal welfare group made up entirely of volunteers. Waverly Animal Shelter and HCHS work together hand in hand to save as many lives as we can. HCHS funds medical care for our pets, such as spay/neuter, vaccinations as well as treatment for illnesses and injuries from sick or abused animals.
HCHS applies for grants to help our shelter and our community with programs such a SNAP and has even formed an anti-cruelty team to investigate reports of animal abuse and neglect.
Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month in the Public Works building (Old MLEC building) at 6:30. Everyone is welcome to attend and if you wish to become a member memberships fees are only $15.00 per year, however you do not need to be a member to be a volunteer. We are always in need of donations, sponsors, shelter volunteers, foster families and people to help with Petsmart Adoption Days. Everything we do, every penny we raise goes to the well being of our animals. For more information on becoming a Humane Society member, shelter volunteer, fostering a homeless pet or to sponsor a pet adoption please call 931-296-7319, 931-296-7733 For more information about Humphreys County Humane Society please visit
