Our wonderful dogs for adoption are all rescues from the Pine Ridge Reservation in Kyle, SD. Most are now in foster homes scattered throughout South Dakota. No! you don't have to travel to Kyle to adopt one of our pets. AND more foster homes are needed. Check out our guys and gals.
Oglala Pet Project (OPP) is a 100% volunteer driven, community based non-profit organization located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Despite daily life struggles, the Oglala people have tremendous spirit for all animals. OPP was founded to serve the people here and their pets through education, spay/neuter support, pet health resources, and the re-homing or networking of abandoned, abused or unwanted pets. Our work would not be possible without the volunteers who live on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and the support of individuals and organizations off the reservation. Working together we can make a difference. OPP says thank you – Philámayaye for visiting our pets on Petfinder!
We do not have a shelter facility; we utilize foster homes both on and off the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to care for the OPP pets until a forever home is found.
A little more about where the OPP pets come from: Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is one of the poorest communities in the country, with an 85% unemployment rate, an even higher alcoholism rate and some homes have no electricity or running water. Some families are overcrowded in homes caring for each other and most pets live their entire lives outside. It is our goal to work through community member volunteers to enhance the quality of life for pets through education, spay/neuter support, pet health resources, and the re-homing of abandoned, abused or unwanted pets.
