Fill out our application! – easy electronic application
Phone Interview- our adoption coordinator will give you a call after processing your application. This does not happen 5 minutes after you submit your app! Please be patient and give us time to sort thru the many, many applications we receive.
Home visit- A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss the care of Great Danes. The volunteer will also look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved
Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, WEGDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family
Meet & Greet- after discussing which Danes would make the perfect fit for your family and lifestyle we will set up a day for you to meet them!
Adoption & Contract - For the protection of the Great Danes we place, everyone that adopts a Great Dane from WEGDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.
*****THE ADOPTION PROCESS TAKES TIME! CALLING/EMAILING/MESSAGING TO ASK IF WE ARE WORKING ON YOUR ADOPTION ONLY SLOWS US DOWN FOR YOU AND EVERY OTHER ADOPTER. WE WILL CONTACT YOU AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE! WE PROMISE!*****
Please also note- we will not hold a dog available for adoption for you. Many times multiple approved adopters are interested in the same dog, and they may all be a great match for the families. It is in the best interest of the dog to spend as little time in rescue as possible. If you are not ready to adopt immediately after you adoption approval, please do not set your heart on a particular dog. The first available, best matched family will be allowed to adopt.
The family should have a fenced in yard
SOMETIMES exceptions are made about fencing requirements. This is only for special circumstances!
All interior stairs in the home must be covered in slip resistant tread or carpet
All animals in the household must be spayed/neutered
All animals in the household must see a vet once a year
The family (plus any current dogs) must be willing to travel to meet the new Dane
The family must be committed to the care and well-being of the dog
All Great Dane adopters must purchase and bring BLOAT BUSTER to their meet & greet/adoption day. Bloat buster can be purchased online from Nature's Farmacy.
***YES, we DO allow out of state adoptions!!!!***
Waters Edge Great Dane Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to taking in Great Danes that have been abused, neglected, placed in shelters, or are owner surrenders. We provide all of our Danes with the best veterinary care. They are placed in loving and experienced foster homes in our surrounding area, until we find them a loving and stable forever home.
Our organization has a charitable tax-exemption under 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Waters Edge Great Dane Rescue, Inc is funded 100% by donations. With an ever growing number of dogs in need, we need continued support and assistance for medical care & housing during the adoption process.
WEGDR is a foster home based rescue, meaning we do not have a facility for you to come visit dogs. We do however attend local adoption events where you can come out to meet our pups!
To find out what events we are attending next, please visit our Facebook page or our Events page on our website: http://www.watersedgegreatdanerescue.com/#!events/e78rj
