Grand Strand Humane Society
Pet of the Month
Our pet of the month is...
This is Carter a large 1-3 yr. old male, neutered Hound mix with tricolor markings. He's been at the shelter since FEBRUARY 2012 when he was found as a stray. He is an absolute joy, walks well on a leash and is a volunteer favorite. He would be ready to go to his forever home on the day of his approved adoption.
Please SHARE her picture with your friends to help us find that perfect place for her. Photo by Scott Smallin!

The Grand Strand Humane Society is dedicated to finding loving, responsible homes for every animal in our shelter. Our adoption program includes a trained Adoption Specialist that can help you through the adoption process. Our preventive health program for animals in our shelter includes: A general health examination by trained staff; One set of vaccinations; Treatment for internal/external parasites; Heartworm testing for dogs; Feline Leukemia testing for cats and rabies vaccinations. A clean and caring environment to maximize the comfort of each animal; Spaying/Neutering of all adopted pets.
Animals requiring additional medical care for specific health problems such as heartworms, mange, or injuries receive veterinary care.
We are so proud to have the Claire Chapin Cook Veterinary Hospital here at our shelter. This wonderful opportunity was made possible by a generous grant from The Chapin Foundation. Our clinic is available to all domestic animals in the Grand Strand area. Walk-In Vaccination Clinic is available on Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00am-2:00pm and Friday 10:00am-3:00pm of each week. Spay/Neuter surgeries need to be scheduled in advance in person at the shelter. Spay/neuter surgeries cannot be scheduled over the phone. We also have animal preventative care, including Advantage and HeartGuard and a retail area for all of your pet's needs.
If you would like additional information, please call 843-918-4910.
Adopting a friend
Each adopter receives a medical record containing information on their pet's vaccinations and any medical care the animal received while at the shelter. In addition, important pet care literature and instructions will also be provided.
Please inquire with our adoption specialist about discounted rates for adoptions. We offer a discount adoption rate for senior citizens. We waive the adoption fee for any person 55+ years of age that adopts an animal 5+ years of age. For people 55+ that adopt an animal younger than 5 years old, we offer 25% off the adoption fee.
