About Us


The animal shelter has a volunteer group called Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization working to supplement the efforts of the Town of Bristol, RI's no-kill Animal Care and Adoption Center.  It is their mission to assist in providing a safe environment and emergency veterinary funding for the animals in their care until they find their forever homes.  Please visit their website for more information:

Adopting A Friend

Adoption Policies: 

 In order to adopt an animal from the shelter, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid form of I.D.  Adopter must show proof of home ownership or a rental lease which allows pets.  The adoption fee for cats is $125 and for dogs is $175 payable by check or money order only.  Adoption applications are filled out at the shelter only, and only after you have met and interacted with the animal and have interviewed with an officer.  All animals available for adoption can be viewed on  petfinder.

Shelter Policies: 


The Bristol Animal Shelter impounds stray dogs and sick or injured cats only.  Persons wishing to surrender an animal must contact a private humane agency.
