Our Featured Pet...
Please check out Heidi. She is wonderful!!
I had a pretty bad "dog rescue day" on 8/30 at the CACC in Brooklyn. I was picking up dogs there and while I was waiting, an unbelievable number of people came in and dropped off pets without batting an eye. Many of these dogs and cats lived with these families for years and yet they were carelessly tossed aside and surrendered to be dragged into the pound. The worst part was the trust and absolute worship that you could see in the dogs' eyes when they looked at their people. Knowing that most of them would be lonely and suffer until they were euthanized was the very worst part. Meanwhile, their children are watching and learning that pets are disposable. It honestly made me worry for the future of humanity.
Please do your part to help foster compassion, especially in children. Help educate others and push for legislation to protect the animals. As always PLEASE PLEASE spay and neuter your pets!!!
Who We Are
Shadbush Rescues is a private rescue league, which adopts out to RI, CT, MA, NY and parts of southern NH. We do not have a shelter and operate using only foster families. Our goal is to take animals from shelters with high kill rates and match them with appropriate families. We spay/neuter animals over 6 months and require that families adopting puppies under 6 months sign a spay/neuter contract. All pets are up to date on shots.
The main benefit of adopting from a rescue that uses only foster homes is that the pets have already been tested in real-life situations. We get to know their personalities very well along with the level of training that they have had. This helps us match them with the right type of family.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting an animal, please take a look at the animals we have looking for homes and send us an email for an application. After you have filled out the application, we will review it and arrange an appointment for you to meet the pet. If you are interested in adopting, we do a home check and also check references. If it looks like you will be a good match, you are then approved for adoption.
We gladly accept donations of crates, dog toys, leashes, blankets, towels, bowls, dog shampoo, paper towels, bleach, laundry detergent and disinfectant. Thank you to everyone who has donated!!
"In the long run it is the cumulative effect that matters. One can do much. And one and one and one and one can move mountains."
