The Cranston Animal Shelter staffs 3 Animal Control Officers and 1 Kennel Attendant. There is an Animal Control Officer on duty 7 days a week. The kennel attendant works Tuesday thru Saturday. The Cranston Animal Shelter has 40 indoor/outdoor dog kennels, 4 of which are strictly for housing dogs under quarantine. The shelter has 23 cat cages in the main cat room, 3 cat cages in isolation and 6 cat quarantine cages. The shelter accepts all stray animals found in the City of Cranston, which include but not limited to dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, ferrets and domestic birds. All stray animals are held for 10 days to give the owner a chance to claim them, after which they are put up for adoption. The shelter also accepts turn in's from Cranston residents only. The number one reason a person will turn in their dog or cat is due to having to move. ALL animals once available for adoption are spayed or neutered prior to going to their new home - NO exceptions. On average the shelter has 50 animals in their care at any given time.
