Featured Dog of the Week - ROMEO

ROMEO "THE MAGNIFICO" is so named because he is a LOVER!!!! His favorite activity is giving kisses (see the second photo). And he is one of the most beautiful Staffordshire Terriers we have ever seen. He is neutered and up-to-date on his basic vaccinations.
EVERYONE who meets him is charmed and says that he's "A Very Special Boy" with a Heart the size of Texas. He is a gentle giant and so trusting of people. He is about two years old with a calm, laid back disposition.
This GENTLE, QUIET, LOVING BOY is a Prime Example of why they were once called "The Nanny Dogs" -- HE IS AN AMBASSADOR for his breed !!
ROMEO is longing for a loving family to call his own. Finally! And he is so deserving of just that. Please consider this special boy for your next family member. ROMEO is not good with cats and would probably prefer to be an only dog so he can get all the attention!

Adopting A Friend

All potential foster families and adopters are required to fill out an application, both of which can be found on our website.

Our foster families are our biggest resource, and the more foster families we add to our family, the more dogs we can save. Our foster families are required to provide a loving, healthy, temporary home for the dogs that we have pulled from shelters who have yet to find their forever families. The rescue covers all medical expenses while our dogs are in foster care. We also require our foster families to work with one of our trainers to address any behavioral problems that develop. This partnership with local trainers is essential to making our foster families' lives easier and raises each of our dogs' adoption potential. These trainers are dedicated to saving these dogs and provide advice and consultations to our fosters free of charge.

All potential adopters are subject to phone interviews after their application has been approved. Most of our adoptions also require a home visit. We require all family members to meet the dog before adoptions are made and this includes any other canine members of the family.

We require our adopters to be committed to the health and well being of our dogs for the rest of their natural lives. This means that we require all of our adoptables to be spayed and neutered. We also require that all other animals in the house to be altered. This policy is to help prevent more unwanted dogs and cats in shelters and it is non-negotiable.

We encourage all adopters to be honest with themselves and us about their lifestyles, wants and dog experience. While we understand that many people have already chosen a pet that they are interested in after seeing them on Petfinder, we want to make sure that our matchmaking is for life. Sometimes this means that the dog a potential adopter is interested in might not be a good match. In this case, we ask that they keep an open mind and allow us to advise them on other dogs who may be a better match.

After adoption, we encourage all of our adopters to keep in touch with us and come to us with any problems that may arise. We strive provide a support system for the rest of the dog's life and will do our best to assist with any issues and to answer any questions. We also can't stress enough how much we enjoy hearing about how happy the dogs we place are in their new homes.

NOTE: The Rescue Express works with positive reinforcement trainers ONLY. We do not condone or encourage dominance theory and will not adopt to those who do. We feel that this leads to more well behaved dogs, less behavioral problems and a better relationship between dogs and their families. If you are curious as to why we have this policy, we encourage you to visit our website where we go into more detail, or to watch the video below of Dr. Ian Dunbar, one of the premier minds in the dog training community.

Who We Are

The Rescue Express is a foster-based dog rescue based in Media, Pennsylvania. Through our amazing network of volunteers and foster families, we rescue dogs from overcrowded shelters where they are likely to be euthanized, and place them in loving forever homes. It is our goal to work with as many shelters and other rescue groups as possible to save as many lives as we can. We've placed hundreds of dogs in loving homes over the years, and with your help, we'll place hundreds more in the years to come!
