WHO WE AREThe Indiana County Humane Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to preventing cruelty and suffering to all animals, providing safe haven and compassion to the animals in our care, placing unwanted animals in permanent, responsible homes, investigating and prosecuting cases of animal cruelty, measurably reducing companion animal overpopulation, and taking a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals.
APPLYING FOR ADOPTION The adoption application process may take up to 48 hours for review and verification of the application information, but is usually much quicker. The process consists of filling out an adoption application, making an appropriate animal selection, and verifying the application information. Once the application is approved, then the adopter is contacted and arrangements are made to complete the adoption contract, sterilization agreement, and take their new pet home. To download a printable adoption form, visit our website: http://www.incohumanesociety.com
If the animal is deemed to be chronically sick by a veterinarian, it may be returned to the ICHS within 10 days without charge. However, adopters must have complied with all the terms and conditions of their adoption contract. All animals must be spayed/neutered if not already done when adopted. The ICHS does have the legal right to reclaim the animal if surgery is not completed within the required time limit. Adopters may not sell, give, or transfer the animal to anyone else or any other society or allow the animal to be used for any experimental purposes.
Each year over 2500 animals are brought to the ICHS shelter, and each year hundreds of them are placed in loving homes. Our shelter personnel are dedicated to finding the pet best suited to the personality and lifestyle of each adopter.
Remember, perfect pets are not born, responsible owners create them. If you are considering adopting an animal from ICHS, we ask that you give your decision serious thought. Ask questions, volunteer your time at the shelter, read books on animal care and training, but most of all, understand what you are getting into. It takes patience, proper training, and a solid commitment to create a successful relationship between a pet and its' owner. The ICHS believes that if you give a pet as much consideration as any other member of your family, you will be rewarded with a lifetime of love and loyalty.
