Every day shelters take in unwanted and homeless older companion pets. Many face certain death. That's where we come in. Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon takes in these unfortunate dogs and places them into new, loving homes. But, we need your help to continue this work. We urgently need people willing to foster a homeless dog temporarily until a new home is available. Without your help, some of these dogs will die. Please, open your home and heart to an older pet and give the best gift of all - the gift of life!

Our Foster Application and Adoption Application are online forms for your convenience.

Can't Foster or Adopt?

You can still help save the life of a dog by making a tax deductible donation. Many of the dogs coming into rescue need veterinary care

Who We Are

Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon is a non-profit group of volunteers based in Philomath, Oregon. We are an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon was organized in 1998. Our goal is to rescue older dogs who are homeless and place them with permanent loving families. We prefer to take dogs 6 years and older, but no dog is turned away regardless of age.

Our senior dogs come to us from a variety of places. Local shelters contact us when they receive an older dog if they are limited on space. Owners who are moving to assisted living facilities ask us to find new homes for their beloved pets. And, families of deceased owners will often contact us to place a pet who has lost their owner.

Our dogs live in foster homes while waiting for the right people to adopt them. This allows us to evaluate the dogs in a normal home environment, and give the prospective new owner/s a very accurate description. This way we can match a dog with the perfect home.

Donations to SDRO
are tax-deductible.

Adopting a friend

If you are interested in one of our adoptable dogs, we'll facilitate a meeting between you and your prospective new friend, and you will be required to fill out an adoption application. If approved, we'll do a home visit and if all goes well, you can adopt the dog. Adoptions fees vary and include a senior citizen discount. There is a two-week trial period with the animal in your home for all parties to get to know each other and see if the dog will fit into your home. We want both you and your new furry friend to be absolutely happy! No need to choose a dog based on location. Long distance transport is possible.

Rusty, one of our rescue dogs, was name "Oregon Companion Pet of the Year 2010." SDRO's Rusty was inducted into the Oregon Animal Hall of Fame. Read his story.

Please Come and Visit Us!

We do not operate out of a shelter. All our dogs are fostered in people's homes while waiting for their permanent homes. Periodically, we have adoption events where we bring some of our dogs for people to meet.
